I tried to activate the driver for the chip by going to System -> Administration -> Additional Drivers and activated Broadcom STA wireless driver. But the laptop can't detect any wireless signal still.

If you don't see broadcom wireless device name, uninstall driver, restart computer, install driver and restart again until "firmwaremissing" message appears with wifi device name under wireless iconafter clicking on it (gnome).

Apparently there are issues with Broadcom licensing their drivers or allowing others to create drivers. My solution was to buy a different wireless networking module to replace the Broadcom one that came standard in my Yoga 3 Pro.

DriverGuide maintains an extensive archive of Windows drivers available for free download. We employ a team from around the world which adds hundreds of new drivers to our site every day. How to Install Drivers Once you download your new driver, then you need to install it. To install a driver in Windows, you will need to use a built-in utility called Device Manager. It allows you to see all of the devices recognized by your system, and the drivers associated with them.

Many device drivers are not updated through the Microsoft Windows Update service. If you are having trouble finding the right driver, stop searching and fix driver problems faster with the Automatic Driver Update Utility. Automatic updates could save you hours of time.

The Driver Update Utility automatically finds, downloads and installs the right driver for your hardware and operating system. It will Update all of your drivers in just a few clicks, and even backup your drivers before making any changes.

Many computer problems are caused by missing or outdated device drivers, especially in Windows 11. If your desktop or laptop is running slow, or keeps crashing or hanging, there is a good chance that updating your drivers will fix the problem.

@nightromantic, thanks for your detailed assistance and pointing me in the right direction(s). Bullet three was now of particular interest to me now. Per bullet one, I did follow the Command Line Setup ( ). Per bullet 2, I have the same result; I can install the driver (dnf install broadcom-wl) but, as you know, have no connection. Per bullet 3 It appears that in order to get the firmware one must now download the rpmfusion Tainted package and install, as shown here:

And then use command: dnf install b43-firmware

Leon,

Looks like my bad, as I misread the LP-PhY as a driver, so disregard my prior post.

You have the correct driver b43-pci-bridge, and it is loaded.

Here is another way to try and get the wireless up.

This is my first install of Arch Linux (well, I re installed 3 times to try to get this to work) and I am having wireless troubles. I have a Broadcom BCM4312 wireless card and I'm using the b43 driver. The internet works fine from the terminal, i can ping website, download from pacman, and even use links. But when I start Xfce and use chromium, it loads most of the website then wlan0 goes down and wicd reconnects to the network after a few seconds. Before it wasn't working at all, like I go to a website and it just won't load, but after disabling TCP Window Scaling, I came to where I am now. Please let me know what log files you want me to post. I've tried everything I can think of doing, so please help if you can. Thanks!

b43 and b43legacy are drivers for the 802.11 B/G/N family of wireless chips that Broadcom produces. The choice of which driver your card uses depends on the revision level of the 802.11 core. If your card is a BCM4306 Rev 2 or only has 802.11b capability, it uses b43legacy. All other models use b43. This number is read by the driver ssb, and the correct choice for your device is made at that point. The drivers are called bcm43xx in mainline kernels, and b43 and b43legacy in wireless-2.6 and 2.6.24 and later.

Ethernet works out of the box. Wireless may work out of the box depending on your wifi card. If you have a Broadcom BCM43XX card, you will need to install the broadcom-wl driver from the AUR. Read Broadcom wireless guide for details. b43 driver can work as well, if supplied with proper firmware.

In the Broadcom wireless installation I was looking at installing the brcmsmac/brcmfmac set of drivers, included with Arch Linux. I neglected the B43 drivers, which should have been obvious since my card model was a BCM4312. lol

So sometimes this is more complex than what your consideration appears to suggest. I concede the probability is small, but sometimes it only takes a few minutes to try. So why not try different resolutions ? Note those resolutions in grub are not the GUI resolutions, but rather those are the text mode resolutions and those text mode resolutions can on rare occasions be affected by the loading of other drivers (such as what I experienced in my Fujitsu-Siemens laptop).

If you used that same external DVD reader to boot that other PC, then the media

are OK. If not, then that DVD and reader combination might not work together.

That said, I still think the problem is a faulty driver on the 11.3 media.

my laptop hp pavilion 15-p097tx has bcm43142 wifi card with single antenna cable is it possible to upgrade it to BCM943602 wifi card which needed dual antenna cable, if possible in that case where to find the drivers?

Your machine was built around 2014 therefore to BCM943602 was NOT in the list. You can use Broadcom BCM 4352 if you wish. Normally 2 antennas adapter is better than 1 antenna and you should be able to get driver from its support page

If you are looking for the Broadcom BCM43XX Driver Win7/8/10 drivers then you will find them below. There is a Windows Vista version of the drivers as well as a Windows 7/8/8.1 and another separate file for the Windows 10 drivers for the BCM43XX.

Note that you will need to download the driver, the one which covers your operating system and from there you will need to and install the driver from the file. This driver covers the BCM 43xx range of adapters such as the BCM4301 right up to and including the BCM4365 and everything in between. Check your hardware first before you install this driver. Note that all the drivers have a 32bit and 64bit version in the file. The following equipment has been listed:

For those seeking more advanced wireless capabilities, options like the Broadcom 4321AG, 4322AG, and 43224AGN 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi Adapters offer faster speeds and improved performance. The Broadcom 4313GN 802.11b/g/n 11 Wi-Fi Adapter and Broadcom 43225 802.11b/g/n provide reliable wireless connections for various computing needs. Likewise also see the Broadcom BCM43XX wireless adapter driver and Aspire 1410 Link 1000 wireless driver.

The files for these are below so check your operating system as well as your hardware before you download and install the driver in the packages which have been listed below for download. See also the Broadcom Products.

Broadcom has a noted history with its support for Wi-Fi devices regarding GNU/Linux. For a good portion of its initial history, Broadcom devices were either entirely unsupported or required the user to tinker with the firmware. The limited set of wireless devices that were supported were done so by a reverse-engineered driver. The reverse-engineered b43 driver was introduced in the 2.6.24 kernel.

In August 2008, Broadcom released the 802.11 Linux STA driver officially supporting Broadcom wireless devices on GNU/Linux. This is a restrictively licensed driver and it does not work with hidden ESSIDs, but Broadcom promised to work towards a more open approach in the future.

In September 2010, Broadcom released a fully open source driver. The brcm80211 driver was introduced in the 2.6.37 kernel and in the 2.6.39 kernel it was sub-divided into the brcmsmac and brcmfmac drivers.

To know what driver(s) are operable on the computer's Broadcom wireless network device, the device ID and chipset name will need to be detected. Cross-reference them with the driver list of supported brcm80211 and b43 devices.

Two reverse-engineered open-source drivers are built-in to the kernel: b43 and b43legacy. b43 supports most newer Broadcom chipsets, while the b43legacy driver only supports the early BCM4301 and BCM4306 rev.2 chipsets. To avoid erroneous detection of your WiFi cards chipset, blacklist the unused driver.

An Internet connection is the ideal way to install the broadcom-wl driver; many newer laptops with Broadcom cards forgo Ethernet ports, so a USB Ethernet adapter or Android tethering may be helpful. If you have neither, you will need to first install the base-devel package during installation. Then, use another Internet-connected computer to download linux-headers and the driver tarball from the AUR, and install them in that order.

Be sure the correct modules are blacklisted and occasionally it may be necessary to blacklist the brcm80211 drivers if accidentally detected before the wl driver is loaded. Furthermore, update the modules dependencies depmod -a, verify the wireless interface with ip addr, kernel upgrades will require an upgrade of the non-DKMS package.
