Line

Line is often the very first Element of Art that people think about or consider. However, that doesn't mean that it is the most important. In fact, the elements have to work together to create an artistic composition. Line helps to tell the story of the artistic piece. Line can help to guide the viewer through the work by defining edges or to create closure or even to indicate lines of sight. Although considered to be a "simple" concept, lines have expressive qualities: Horizontal lines imply restfulness; Vertical lines give the appearance of strength; Diagonal lines add a sense of movement; and so on. But, lines can also be abstract and do not symbolize or represent nameable objects. I wonder where all these outlines and contour lines will take us...
