SDEA Advocates Safe Use of Personal Device Chargers

The San Diego Electrician’s Association (SDEA) is reminding homeowners to observe safe practices when charging their personal electronic media devices. According to the SDEA, unsafe use of mobile device chargers have led to countless accidents and injuries that are otherwise preventable.

A news report from UK-based British Broadcasting Company has reported on the safety of mobile device use, and mentioned the possible safety risks associated with it.

“Mobile phones, mp3 players, laptops, tablets, e-readers. The variety and number of mobile electronic devices that need charging is increasing all the time. The biggest risk posed by chargers is the availability of cheap generic options online, according to fire and safety experts.”

British Online Magazine Publication Saga also shared safe mobile charging practices in one of their web articles. In their write up they emphasized the importance of purchasing chargers from official manufacturers to be sure of their quality.

“Don’t cover your charger while in use -- We’ve all heard stories of phones bursting into flames or exploding while being charged. Along with using a genuine charger, make sure nothing is covering your phone as it charges so that the heat generated is able to dissipate safely.”

The SDEA says unsafe mobile device charging practices also put children at risk. Crawling babies and toddlers for instance can put live charging pins on their mouths when unattended and receive electric shock. They may also trip or worse strangle unto device chargers. With this the SDEA is encouraging device owners to charge their mobile devices safely.
