The NJROTC uniform should be worn once weekly and the uniform should remain neat, clean, and in good repair. When wearing the uniform cadets are to behave properly and proudly. Some aspects of our uniform differ from those of the active duty uniform, including the J-bar and NJROTC patch.
Braids/Ponytails
The end of the braid or ponytail may extend up to three inches below the lower edge of the collar of the shirt, jacket or coat.
Hair Buns
Will not exceed three inches from the scalp or extend beyond the width of the back of the head.
Lock Hairstyle
Consists of one section of hair that twists from or near the root to the end of the hair and creates uniform ringlet or cord-like appearance. (see more CFM)
Above the ears and around the neck: must be tapered upwards 3/4 inch and outwards not greater than 3/4
Must not collar or ears
No longer than 4 inches and the bulk shall not exceed 2 inches. (In no case shall the bulk or length of your hair interfere with proper wearing of your cap.)
Collar device ( the JROTC bar insignia is worn on the wear's left side; the rank insignia is worn on the wearer's right side
Khaki: The center of each (rank and JROTC bar) is 1 7/8 inch from the collar point
SDB: Positioned on the collar 1/2 inch above the notch in the lapel and parallel to the deck.
Name tag/Ribbons/ medals
Male
Khaki: Ribbons and name tag are worn parallel to the top of the shirt pocket, 1/4 inch above and centered on the pocket button hole. Medals are worn 1/4 inch below the top of the pocket, similarly centered.
SDB: Name tag and ribbons are parallel to the deck, not to the coat pocket, 1/4 inch above and centered on the coat pocket. (Medals are the same as Khaki)
Female
Khaki: Placement of the bottom of the ribbons shall be approximately 6 1/4 inches down from the intersection of the front seam and shoulder seam and centered on over the front seam. Name tags shall be placed in the same manner on the right of the overblouse. Medals shall be worn 1/4 inch below the bottom row of ribbons.
SDB: Name tag and ribbon are parallel to the top of the coat pocket, 1/4 inch above and centered on the coat pocket.
Service Stars
Service stars are worn 1/4 inch above the top row of ribbons. A single device are centered on the ribbons.
Garrison Cover
The anchor is worn on the wearer's left side of the cap. The center of the anchor is bisected by a vertical line 2 inches from the fore crease of the garrison cap and a horizontal line 1 1/2 inches from the bottom of the cap. (Only officers and chiefs wear a rank insignia on the garrison cap. It is worn on the wearer's right side.)
Honor Roll
If you have earned honor roll the previous quarter, you are expected to have service stars center 1/4 inch above the "O" in the JROTC bar. One for Honor Roll or two for Principal's Roll
Shoes
Shoes shall be laced inside out through all eyelets and shall be well shined
Belt
Gig Line - The alignment of the seams o the shirt and trouser fly with the edge of the belt buckle
CO's tip: To put your hair up, use water. To keep your hair looking good use hair gel.
CO's tip: if you put too much polish on a shoe and are struggling to shine it, use hot water to shine the area.
