Even as I wrote the date of the programme, I really had forgotten how long back we took to plan this leadership summit as a committee. Never had I expected a simple act of filling an email I received because I felt the event could look good on my portfolio lead to a huge change in my life. At the start of this event, it was me seriously dreading to come to planning sessions because of NSG and strict teachers in my subcomm that always rejected our proposals. Although I knew some of the people there beforehand, we were not close and it was this awkward feels that left me after every session when we were forced to affirm people we did not really know...
Unknowingly, weeks of planning the event led to the sudden arrival of the news that we had to prepare training sessions for facilitators and thus the participants. This was an uneasy journey because the actual sweat and tears really led to me telling a lot of my friends this would be one of the top most regrettable decisions in my life. Well, I am not really sure when or how but things just started to turn for the better nearing the dates of the actual event. The actual event was another headache when being in the logistics subcomm meant having to always run around to make sure everybody has what they need. However, it did start to pay off when we walk around classroom blocks seeing facilitators parting their knowledge to the participants.
Besides allowing me to learn more about what the event was suppose to impart in us which was being a servant leader, another more important aspect I felt this event brought was closeness and relationship bonds.
As the event ended in success, I felt the more important point I wanted to emphasise on was not how we trained, what we taught or what we literally learnt but this team of people that I met. The drive, passion, resilience, optimism and intelligence of the team was really what led to the overall success of the event. I am extremely thankful and grateful for having such an all-rounder team that I feel is capable to really overcome any obstacles in life.
Unfortunately (and as always), events and plannings always come to an end but this sadly ends on the first week of our June holidays, despite looking forward to study-together initiatives or just simple hanging out outings with this lovely bunch of excos, truth be told that it is always hard to replicate what is gone. The particular time and moment that "forced" us together has already passed and whether all of us can come together once again remains a simple mystery... A special dedication to every one of the exco members: Faith, Dalissia, Bailey, Brielle, Glenn, Audria, Yanjie, Jin Yong, Frewin, Zoha, Priyanka, Xuan En, Cherisse, Axalya, Sophia, Chien Kiet, Shermaine and Jay. ~ Thank you for teaching me a very important life lesson: Leaders are not people that are conceited and selfish, but people affection and selfless
