Points of critique (warning, spoilers)
- Why musashi is hunted in the beginning is just not explained. He survived a battle and killed a criminal? whoopsie guess he's a bad guy now? like what?
- Takuan, who's continually presented as smart and providing lessons for Musashi and others, suffers from idiot plot syndrome aswell for thinking Musashi should be executed in the beginning for surviving and killing a criminal???
Regarding the two points above, i really like i must have missed some major points because i found this to be so dumb.
- Musashi uses a wooden sword until he just... doesn't? And then in his most important battle, the final battle against Kojiro he switches back to a wooden sword? why? There are numerous instances where musashi slashes and cuts people, but it's hard to imagine he would have done that with a wooden sword since that breaks and is blunt, not sharp. I tried looking in the book but cannot find when he switched to actual swords. Nor did i find a reasoning for him going back to wooden swords when going off to fight Kojiro.
- The End: whilst thrilling, why end it at the battle? What about Otsu, osugi, ogin, iori, gonnosuke, takuan, ikeda, gudo, matachi and all the others? Why have an entire book practically build up to this battle to nt have an aftermath of it? it is unsatisfactory.
