Elaine Claire Macaspac, an MS Environmental Science student from the UP Institute of Environmental Science and Meteorology (IESM), University of the Philippines Diliman, has been awarded a research grant under the WTA Labs Research Grants Program 2026 for her proposed study titled “Water Inequality and Core-Periphery Dynamics in Multi-Island Municipalities: A Case Study of Bongao, Tawi-Tawi.”
The study aims to examine inequalities in water access within geographically fragmented, multi-island municipalities, with a focus on understanding how spatial and governance factors shape disparities in water availability and distribution. The research seeks to contribute to a deeper understanding of water equity and resource governance in archipelagic contexts.
The project will be receiving PHP 25,000 in research funding through the WTA Labs Research Grants Program to support its implementation.
