East Hampton Town Beaches

The East Hampton Town Lifeguards are the division of the East Hampton Town Recreation Department tasked with the seasonal supervision of the town's 7 ocean and 3 bay beaches in the hamlets of Amagansett and Montauk.       From its headquarters in the historic Amagansett Lifesaving Station and 12 towers around the south fork of Long Island, this staff of approximately 100 lifeguards is dispatched to respond to waterborne emergencies all along the district's coastline using trucks, ATV's, and PWC's.
Aside from its primary, first-responder, mission, the agency takes a leading role in promoting water safety and world-class lifeguarding. Its presentations on rip-current, beach, and pool safety educate the general public on best practices around the water. Its Nipper Guard and Junior Lifeguard Programs help children ages 6 and up develop knowledge and confidence in the open water environment. Many go on to compete in the National Junior Lifeguard Championship.
The East Hampton Town Lifeguards are Suffolk County approved lifeguard certification agency and conduct annual spring Stillwater and Surf-I Lifeguard Training Courses and Examinations. Teaming with the City and County of Honolulu, the agency has also developed a 24 hour, New York State approved, Rescue PWC Training Course. East Hampton Town Lifeguards compete at the local, national, and world levels.
