our team
We're parents, teachers, and professionals in the Elk Grove community who founded EGUSD Parent Coalition in late October 2020 out of growing concern that schools in Elk Grove continue to conduct remote learning only, with no concrete dates set for in-person return to classes.
LEADERSHIP BOARD
Erin Somers (President)
An Elk Grove parent of two, with a 1st grader at Arthur Butler Elementary, Erin is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She has over 10 years of experience in child welfare, and specializes in childhood trauma and family based interventions.
Joel Boyd (Vice President)
Joel is the father of two children attending Zehnder Ranch Elementary in the EGUSD. Joel is a Respiratory Care Practitioner, with over 20 years experience specializing in neonatal, pediatric, and adult intensive care. He holds a Masters in Business Administration and is a healthcare administrative leader who develops and builds high performing healthcare systems and teams for a local healthcare organization. Joel is a proud US Marine Corps veteran.
Vacant (Secretary)
This position is currently OPEN. Board Secretary oversees internal communications, establishes meeting agendas, and maintains records and meeting minutes. He/she also ensures documents and resources are available to the Board and Committees.
David Phommavong (Programs Lead, Board Member)
David is a father of four, and a strong advocate for children with Autism. His youngest child is enrolled in EGUSD Special Education. David and his wife run the nonprofit Nourish Lao Children to raise awareness of autism in the Laotian community. David also brings a wide breadth of business expertise, including a prior role as VP with an international IT firm based in Dublin, Ireland.
Heather Kraft (Founding Board Member)
The mother of four children, Heather is a softball coach and dedicated community volunteer. Her eldest child serves in the Armed Forces and her 3 youngest children are current EGUSD students. Her passion is to help shape our youth by helping them set and achieve goals, while building self-confidence.
Sean Mitchell (Founding Board Member)
The father of 3 children in EGUSD elementary, middle, and high schools, Sean graduated from CSU Chico with a BA in Journalism and Dual Minors in Business Administration & Marketing. As an entrepreneur, Sean's extensive experience in finance and real estate includes developing business services solutions, capital formation and Fortune 500 corporate management and leadership.
