About the summit


The Bioinformatics Education Summit is an online working meeting to develop guides, papers and documents for promoting and improving Education and Training in Bioinformatics worldwide.The participation is free and open to all people working in the area of Bioinformatics teaching and education or who have a clear interest in contributing to it.


The first iteration of the summit took place in 2019 in Cape Town, and included trainers from institutions such as EMBL-EBI, GOBLET, ELIXIR, etc, having the necessity to share knowledge and experiences in tasks related to planification, development and evaluation of bioinformatics capacities.


2021’s iteration of this virtual event is being organized by CABANA, GOBLET, ELIXIR, H3ABioNet, APBioNET and ISCB. It is being held from the 24th-26th May, 2021. This year in particular we are welcoming a wider body of academics, researchers, representatives and stakeholders from all over the world, thus, all working days are being divided in three Time Zones:


Time Zone 1 - ASIA/AUSTRALIA = 17:30-22:00 AEST (Sydney) = (CET + 8h)

Time Zone 2 - EUROPA/AFRICA = 12:00-16:30 CET (Paris)

Time Zone 3 - AMERICA = 6:00-10:30 CDT (Mexico/USA) = (CET - 7h)


There are many topics to be discussed during our working meetings, they are divided as follows:

Day1, May 24, 2021 - Competency framework extension to Data science in Biomedical Sciences & Developing and delivering health data science training

Day 2, May 25, 2021 - Virtual education and training - How will this past year influence our delivery going forward? & Ensuring our training is FAIR

Day 3, May 26, 2021 - Effective and efficient building of infrastructure and activities in Low and middle income countries (LMICS) and Latinamerican Forum of Bioinformatics Academic Programs
