Building bridges of experiences

OUR PURPOSE

To provide spaces for student-led discussions of educational topics in an open, friendly environment that facilitates dialog and learning from the diversity of lived experiences in our community.

EdDisCo is a student-led discussion group created by students in the University of Jyväskylä Educational Sciences Master's Degree program in 2021 to facilitate discussions on topics related to education.  EdDisCo is currently led by a group of students representing multiple universities in Finland, and strives to promote both intra- and inter-university dialong among educational science students.

We meet regularly in Zoom on alternating Fridays at 15.00 (Helsinki time), and at other times as desired. Anyone interested in education is welcome to attend, regardless of position or university.

In this session, we explore education in the Philippines in an unconventional way. Instead of looking at facts, and stats, this session will focus on the top three lessons that the country’s educational system can provide, and which people can learn from.

The host of the discussion will be Dr. Kristóf Fenyvesi, researcher of STEAM Learning & Contemporary Culture Studies (Finland) at the Finnish Institute for Educational Research, in Jyväskylä, Finland.  Guest presenters will include Sophia Stier, art and math educator from the USA and Orsolya Tuba, a DEICO Master's Degree student at the University of Jyväskylä.

We invite you to join us in-person (Crazy Town, Jyväskylä) or online to an awareness discussion and makerspace session to find out how STEAM can become a tool for self development in adult life.   Do you know what STEAM is? It’s intergenerational learning → through STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics), and in this session we will discuss how STEAM can be a lifelong learning resource not just for children, but for adults as well.  The event is organized as part of the STEAM Plus Erasmus+ project.
