I was wary to go to school completely online since my past experiences with it weren't so great, but from the very beginning, all of the faculty and staff have been more than supportive with me, which is super important for a student who lives thousands of miles away from the actual campus.

I'm a single mother of four children and my four children inspire me every day. My children are my greatest inspiration and I want to show them that they can do whatever they set their minds to. I want to show them that even though there may be bumps in the road, they should never give up on their dreams. Their dreams are worth fighting for. I'm glad to be attending Ross Medical Center because the staff is always there to lend a helping hand to their students, regardless if it has to do with their education or personal lives. Ross staff is another addition to my family because they make me feel like I'm a part of something that's bigger than I am.

In our Spring 2022 Newsletter, we detail the benefits of our free services our Centers in Durango and Cortez provide with individuals and how these benefits ripple across the entire community. Our programs would not be possible without the tremendous, generous support we receive from local organizations and ordinary local people.

Our Mission: Durango Adult Education Center, a caring learning community, fills educational gaps by providing the skills and knowledge necessary for livable wage careers, post-secondary education, and social and economic mobility.

The Durango Adult Education Center (DAEC) provides affordable and effective education to young adults (17) and adults over 18. We equip individuals with the knowledge they need to lead productive lives, allowing them to better contribute to the local economy and the overall health of our communities. Learn more about why you should study with DAEC.

Furthermore, DAEC protects the rights of individuals with disabilities by providing equal access to programs and services. For more information contact our Resource Coordinator, Jill Colburn-Bernard, at jcolburn@durangoadulted.org or 970.385.4354 Ext. 14.

Nearly 300 students each year attend classes at the DAEC. Our success is directly attributed to the many donors who recognize the importance of education in our community and our volunteers who help tutor, teach and assist with office duties and more. Contact us today to learn how to get involved with the DAEC either as a student or a volunteer. Or, donate now and protect education equity in our region.

Public Open Hours at the Environmental Education Center are free and open to all. Open Hours offer the opportunity for self-led investigation with guidance by expert educators to reveal the hidden stories found within and around Brooklyn Bridge Park. Our exhibits invite visitors to explore our exemplary animal collection showcasing creatures that are local to New York. Open Hours also features educational games, activities, exhibits and crafts that rotate monthly and coincide with comprehensive themes such as sustainability, pollination, and geology.

In 2008, before Brooklyn Bridge Park officially opened, the Conservancy sought to engage the public in learning about the marine life of the East River and what would soon be a vibrant waterfront park for all. With the unique opportunity of beach and shoreline access (a rarity in NYC), we began a public seining program right underneath the Manhattan Bridge. In the years following, the Conservancy expanded environmental education programs and offerings by utilizing the newly restored park piers as an outdoor classroom and living laboratory.

The Environmental Education Center opened September 10, 2015 and this new indoor space enabled field trips and educational classes to take place year-round, even in inclement weather. It also allowed for the expansion of new education programs such as Public Open Hours, Discovery Sessions, Early Nature Experiences, and more.
