How to find part-time job

Overview

Most job seekers find themselves unemployed after a few months of searching. The initial period of unemployment can often be, for many, difficult to recover from. For this reason, some one time job offers can be extremely attractive.

One of the best things you can do to increase your chances of finding work is to find something you enjoy doing on a slightly odd schedule.

For example, if you are an architect and it is after 5pm on a Friday that you decide you want to go home and sleep, going to work at an odd hour probably won't put you at a disadvantage.

A part-time job is an opportunity to earn some money, build experience and make new friends.

You are stressed as it is, what with exams and essays due. A part time job would be a good way to free up your schedule, allowing you to put more focus on getting the top grades.

Look for Local help

You have more options than ever before to finding a job. Not just from traditional job boards like Indeed and Indeed Jobs but also from niche forums like Indeed Jobs Up This River and Localized Jobs Pool.

Many employers will post jobs in these forums even if they don’t have a formal job application process set up.

One of the best places to find a job that fits your schedule is by talking to people you know. If you have a friend who works at your favorite store or restaurant, ask them if they have any leads for part-time jobs.

You might also want to look for jobs on bulletin boards around campus or in your parents’ neighborhood.

Just make sure anyone you contact knows that you were referred to them by a friend and not just someone looking for a job!

Keep your eyes and ears peeled for possible internship possibilities. Talk to your neighbors or classmates, friends of friends, and relatives if you have a good idea for a business to approach them with.

Show commitment

It takes a bit of effort, but it can also be rewarding. You can earn extra money and expand your network by doing jobs that you normally wouldn’t be able to do if you had full time hours.

There is no time like the present to get into paid work situation. Overtime is great for getting extra hours in during the week, and sometimes part time can seem like a better option in certain circumstances.

My own background has led me to being a very heavy workloader. I have used many instances where one could delegate tasks, but have found that the majority of tasks always seem more difficult when one has to do them by themselves.

One way to find part time work is to advertise on Facebook or Twitter. Posting on a professional network will allow you to network with other professionals in your industry and find opportunities that are specific to your skill set.

You may also be able to find a local job fair by going to conferences or by searching for job postings on sites such as Monster.com.

Posting on these platforms alone isn’t enough to find work, though. You have to actually show up and be committed to the position. Being willing to work for less than a full time job is a good sign.
