If you want long battery life, advanced noise cancellation for travel, and a lightweight design for all-day wear, choose Edifier ES850NB; if you need studio-grade audio fidelity with physical controls, deep bass for mixing, and a wired option for zero-latency monitoring, choose OneOdio Studio Max 1.
• Edifier ES850NB: Offers up to 92 hours of playtime and hybrid active noise cancellation that blocks -45dB of ambient sound, but lacks a physical headphone jack and relies on touch controls. Best for college students who need endurance and silence in noisy dorms or libraries.
• OneOdio Studio Max 1: Features massive 50mm drivers with oxygen-free copper-clad coils for rich, deep bass and includes a USB-C adapter for high-resolution wired listening, but has no active noise cancellation and fewer battery-focused features. Best for music majors, DJs, or producers needing accurate sound reproduction over wireless convenience.
The Edifier ES850NB is engineered for the modern commuter and the student who lives on the go. Its most defining feature is the sheer longevity of its power system. With a claimed battery life of up to 92 hours when the active noise cancellation is turned off, and 53 hours even when keeping it on, this device effectively eliminates range anxiety. You can take this on a week-long trip without packing a charger, which is a game-changer for anyone constantly moving between campus, home, and internships. The inclusion of fast charging further solidifies this as a travel-friendly companion; a mere 15-minute charge provides enough power for nearly 12 hours of playback, ensuring you never miss a lecture or a playlist because your headphones died mid-session.
Audio quality here is tailored for immersive consumption rather than critical engineering work. The unit utilizes 40mm titanium-coated drivers that support Hi-Res Audio Wireless certification via LDAC and SBC protocols. This means you get detailed highs and a wide frequency response from 20Hz to 20,000Hz, making it an excellent choice for hi res true wireless earbuds for college students who consume a lot of diverse content, from podcasts to high-fidelity streaming services. The sound profiles are customizable through an app, offering specific modes for Music, Game, and Spatial sound, allowing you to tweak the output to match your environment. Whether you are gaming late at night or watching a film in a quiet corner of the library, these settings let you personalize the experience without needing external software.

Comfort is another pillar where this model shines for extended wear. Weighing in at just 260 grams, the build feels remarkably light despite the robust steel headband and leather ear cushions. The ergonomic design ensures that skin-friendly materials keep your ears cool during long study sessions, while the fully foldable design makes it easy to stash in a backpack without taking up too much space. The Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity ensures a stable connection, reducing dropouts in crowded Wi-Fi zones. However, potential buyers should note the reliance on touch controls and the absence of a traditional 3.5mm jack. If you prefer physical buttons for volume adjustments or need to plug directly into a legacy mixer without an adapter, this might feel limiting compared to more traditional models.
The OneOdio Studio Max 1 serves a different demographic entirely: the audiophile, the producer, or the student deeply invested in the technical side of audio. This isn't just a consumer headset; it is a tool designed for precision. The standout specification is the 50mm dynamic driver paired with oxygen-free copper-clad coils. In the world of audio gear, larger drivers often translate to better low-end response and greater dynamic range. Here, you get deep, punchy bass and crystal-clear highs that are essential for identifying subtle details in a mix or enjoying the raw power of a live recording. Unlike the Edifier, which focuses on comfort and battery, the OneOdio prioritizes the purity of the signal path.
Connectivity options are where this product truly distinguishes itself for practical use cases. It supports both wireless Bluetooth transmission and a direct wired connection via a 3.5mm jack. More impressively, it comes with a USB-C to 3.5mm adapter that houses a premium DAC chip capable of supporting 24-bit/96kHz HiFi audio sampling. This allows for lossless transmission when plugged into a computer or mobile device, bypassing potential compression issues found in standard wireless streams. For a student looking for the best head phones for college students who are also studying audio engineering or production, this wired capability is non-negotiable. It offers zero-latency monitoring, which is critical when recording vocals or playing instruments alongside digital audio workstations.
While the Edifier leans into the "set it and forget it" lifestyle with ANC, the OneOdio takes a more utilitarian approach. It does not offer active noise cancellation, meaning you will hear the ambient sounds of a busy coffee shop or a bustling lecture hall. Instead, it relies on the passive isolation provided by the over-ear design. The lack of electronic processing means the sound you hear is exactly what is being sent to the drivers, offering a transparency that many professionals prefer. The build uses durable materials suitable for frequent handling, though it lacks the ultra-lightweight profile of the Edifier. If your primary goal is to listen to music purely for enjoyment without worrying about battery life or blocking out the world, this model delivers a raw, uncolored sound signature that respects the source material.

After weighing the specifications and intended use cases, I would buy the Edifier ES850NB for my own daily life as a college student. The combination of 92-hour battery life and effective noise cancellation solves the two biggest pain points of student life: running out of power during exams and fighting against background noise in shared living spaces. While the OneOdio Studio Max 1 is undeniably impressive for audio purists, the convenience and endurance of the Edifier make it the more practical choice for general use. However, if you are specifically studying audio production and need that wired, zero-latency connection, the OneOdio remains the superior tool for the job.
Yes, the Edifier ES850NB stands out with up to 92 hours of playback, making it arguably the longest-lasting option for students who rarely have time to charge their devices.
