ECS Yoyo

Welcome to the website for the Experimental Chinese School Yoyo program

About ECS Yoyo

Northern Virginia Experimental Chinese School was founded by a group of parents in 1991 and was registered in Virginia as a non-profit organization. We promote education in the Chinese language, as well as cultural retention among the next generation, and hope to foster a community to support these efforts. Our school has a yoyo program as an extra curricular program where students can learn how to do yoyo. Our youth yoyo ambassadors have performed in many community events and competitions throughout the years. Our goal is to engage in community service activities, team building exercises, and promote culture through Taiwanese yoyo performance. Today, we have 20 ambassador students, their ages ranging from 6 to 15 years old.

What is Chinese Yoyo?

The yoyo you may be familiar with is different to a Chinese yoyo. A Chinese yoyo is a circus prop shaped like two disks connected by an axle which is spun by a string wound around its center and by pushing and pulling on the string by moving two sticks. Playing with the Chinese yoyo is a very popular sport in China and Taiwan.
