Held in conjunction with the Mexican International Conference on Artificial Intelligence (MICAI 2026)
Past Editions
ECSI 2025 (MICAI, Guanajuato, Mexico)
Scope
This workshop explores two pivotal areas of Artificial Intelligence: Evolutionary Computation and Swarm Intelligence, both crucial for solving optimization problems. Evolutionary Computation mimics natural selection and genetics through populations of candidate solutions that evolve via selection, crossover, and mutation, exemplified by Genetic Algorithms (GA) and Evolution Strategies (ES). In contrast, Swarm Intelligence, inspired by natural collective behaviors such as ant colonies and bird flocks, leads to algorithms like Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Ant Colony Optimization (ACO), utilizing simple interactions among individual agents. Both methodologies find extensive applications in optimization, machine learning, and robotics, enabling the discovery of innovative solutions to complex challenges. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of these techniques, their principles, and practical implementations.
Topics of Interest
The workshop will explore the dynamic fields of Swarm Intelligence and Evolutionary Computation, focusing on their theoretical foundations, recent algorithmic advancements, and practical applications. A diverse range of topics will be discussed, including:
Recent Algorithm Developments: Insights into the latest advancements in Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), Ant Colony Optimization (ACO), Genetic Algorithms (GA), and Evolution Strategies (ES), among others.
Methods for Complex Optimization Problems: Innovative approaches for addressing challenging optimization issues, such as large-scale, many-objective, constrained, and mixed-variable problems.
Applications in Various Fields: The use of swarm and evolutionary techniques in robotics, machine learning, optimization, and bioinformatics.
Interdisciplinary Approaches: Integration of these computational techniques with other scientific disciplines to enhance research outcomes.
Current Challenges and Future Directions: Exploration of the ongoing challenges in Swarm Intelligence and Evolutionary Computation and insights into future research opportunities.
