I can see on the GitHub -eclipse/wiki/Groovy-Eclipse-2.9.2-Release-Notes obviously the last version of groovy for Eclipse. But how can I add it to an Eclipse package? Not a way is given on the page. What is the sense of making an Eclipse plugin that does not support an import from Eclipse? Obviously, there should exist some way.
My workspace settings were getting over-written by user-specific settings stored in ~/.eclipse/org.eclipse.oomph.setup/setups/user.setup. Specifically, that file included those leftover setup lines from a previous installation:

Auto-completion of variables and functions only works provided that the variable or function is local to the file that I'm currently working on. Auto-completion attempts using Ctrl-Space for variables and functions that are located outside the current file result in the dialog with No Default Proposals. Also, auto-completion for var/funcs within the current file are case sensitive, otherwise no proposals are displayed (a problem that I didn't have with previous versions of eclipse).
I'm unable to find the Eclipse Marketplace in the Help Menu for Eclipse Oxygen version milestone 6. I've seen it last in Mars version in my old system. As I moved to a new system I installed a new version of eclipse which is Oxygen version. But this version doesn't seem to have marketplace client installed with it. How can I find it or install the plugin from external sources?
I don't see an installer, but there also doesn't seem to be a need to "install" anything, I can just run the eclipse executable from right there. Should I just manually move the eclipse folder to /opt or some other directory? But now it won't be managed by APT?
You don't have to install anything, as you mentioned just move the extracted folder eclipse to /opt, then you could make a symbolic link to the executable with sudo ln -sv /opt/eclipse/eclipse /usr/local/bin/eclipse. When you have done these steps you can run Eclipse with the simple command eclipse.
It's not managed by apt because you didn't install it via apt (sudo apt install eclipse), that Eclipse that you find in the apt repository it's an old version of the Java IDE.

I think you really missed the point. Not the codenames are the problem but the name eclipse for the IDE. In the beginning eclipse was the name of a very good java IDE and everything was good, but then more and more projects which have nothing to do with a java IDE adopt the brand name eclipse. So when you search the web for eclipse you get many hits for other projects under the umbrella of the eclipse foundation which have nothing to do with your java IDE. So i think eclipse needs to find a new name for the IDE so that it is much easier for people to find out if an information the find on the internet is related to their favorite IDE or to another eclipse project.
