The last several months have been busy! We have been doing pre-construction preparations and planning, and this summer all of our resident building partners -- Ethical Trading Co., Kindling Community Arts, and Common Grace -- relocated to different sites for the interim period while construction takes place on the triangle.
Our design/build team, Threshold Builds, presented to Madison’s Urban Design Commission, Plan Commission and Common Council with the result being full approval from the city to move forward! Plan commissioner, Anina Mbilinyi, described our project as “achieving holistic wellness for community with this design”. This is testament to the team at Threshold Builds hearing our vision and translating it into physical buildings, and a site plan that is true to Eastmorland Community Center’s mission.
Building demolition is estimated to start in early September, with a groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday, September 3. Both buildings will be constructed at the same time, offering cost savings and an expedient timeline for completion which is projected to be late 2026.
We have had a great first phase of our $1.5M Capital Campaign, raising 47% of our goal within the first three months of fundraising! Over 100 community donors have supported this campaign, which will provide funds to finish the community center building and continue to develop the community center non-profit. We are humbled by the incredible support to help create “common space for the common good” in the Eastmorland neighborhood! The Capital Campaign will raise funds through one-time gifts or pledges over 3 years to reach our goal.
