Sparsity-driven methods are making waves in the systems and control world, offering innovative solutions to practical challenges in large-scale and constrained systems. This workshop dives into the exciting applications of sparsity across key areas:
Actuator Sparsity
Selecting a small subset of actuators at each time step to minimize energy, bandwidth, or communication costs.
Sparse Communication in Control Networks
Reducing data exchange between subsystems while keeping stability and performance intact.
Sparsity in Optimization Hierarchies
Crafting sparse optimization layers to efficiently analyze feedback system stability.
Sparse Inversion and Observability in Systems
Recovering the system’s initial state and unknown sparse inputs from limited output data.
Sparsity in Active Control Inputs
Switching control inputs on or off to conserve energy or reduce operational costs.
These cutting-edge techniques can find applications in network control, neuroscience, power grids, robotics, and large-scale cyber-physical systems. By embracing sparse solutions, we can extend network battery life, reduce hazardous emissions, minimize vibrations/noise, and meet strict bandwidth requirements.
Join us to explore how sparsity is shaping the future of control systems, with leading experts from control theory and signal processing sharing the latest breakthroughs and tackling emerging challenges. Don’t miss out – be part of the conversation!
This workshop is an excellent chance for non-expert students, researchers, and professionals to approach the area of sparse control from different angles . Although general background in control theory is preferred, the talks do not require much preliminary knowledge.
We particularly encourage attendance from underrepresented communities and countries. See information about student support below:
