9:30a-10:30a Making OER Discoverable in Alma/Primo - Presentation Recording - Slides - Audio Only - Chat Transcript

Presenter: Ryan Edwards, West Los Angeles College

As West Los Angeles College’s Electronic Resources and Systems Librarian and Open Educational Resources (OER) Liaison, I saw the opportunities to activate OER resources in Alma and exploit them with Primo VE’s Resource Recommender service, which allows one to recommend resources based on searchable tags that are configured in Alma to expose databases, websites, people, library information, and library guides in Primo. In addition, I discovered that collaborating with other librarians across the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD), the California Community College (CCC) system, and the Ex Libris Alma and Primo customer base helped to get Ex Libris to review LibreTexts OER content for possible ingestion into both the Ex Libris Central Discovery Index (CDI) and across Ex Libris’s discovery products.

9:30a-10:30a Using Postman and the Alma APIs to Delete Electronic Collections - Presentation Recording - Slides - Audio Only - Chat Transcript

Presenter: Tamara Pilko, University of California, Santa Cruz

Deleting Electronic Collections in Alma is a click-heavy process and not possible to do in bulk. The Alma API allows for deleting electronic collections, but as a non-coder I needed a way to automate the process. Enter Postman to save the day {{Superman-swooshing noise}}!! Postman is an API development platform and client that provides an interface for a non-coder to send and manipulate API calls. This presentation will cover how to set up Postman to use a CSV file of Database type Electronic Collection IDs to delete them in bulk. This was useful for UC Santa Cruz's cleanup to convert erroneously created electronic collections to local portfolios. This presentation will also show how to string together multiple API calls to bulk delete Electronic Collections of Selective or Aggregator type starting with the MMSID. This is useful for cleanup of CDI collections that have no activated portfolios and do not need Alma activation, particularly for institutions using the CDI EasyActive setting.

9:30a-10:30a Using Alma Digital for Controlled Digital Lending - Presentation Recording - Slides - Audio Only - Chat Transcript

Presenter: Erik Beck, Sacramento State University

Controlled Digital Lending (CDL) is the practice of circulating a digital surrogate of an item in place of its physical copy. The Alma extension that allows libraries to associate digital representations with existing bibliographic records (Alma Digital) is ideal for delivering CDL service. This presentation will provide a description of the CDL process and its copyright implications, as well as introducing Alma Digital as a tool for loaning digital items. The presentation will include demonstrations of Alma Digital's backend workflow and the frontend user experience of a CDL loan. The presentation will conclude with an open forum discussion about CDL, which should be a lively conversation since CDL is still a somewhat controversial practice.

11a-noon Social Breakout for Systems

Chris Lee, California State University, Chancellor’s Office

The California State University (CSU) and State University of New York (SUNY) library systems both share materials with other libraries in their consortia through Alma Resource Sharing, but what if the materials cannot be supplied through their consortia? Several CSU and SUNY libraries are piloting a program where the two consortia can share materials with each other using a secondary rota instead of an additional system. This presentation will go over how the two systems are connected and what they hope to achieve.
