Our Chrome Extension requests specific browser permissions to perform its core functionality. Below is a detailed breakdown of why each permission is required:
A. "scripting" Permission
- Purpose: Required to execute lightweight content scripts on eBay product listing pages.
- Detailed Use: This permission allows the extension to inspect the webpage DOM to detect, parse, and extract high-resolution product gallery photos, description images, HTML5 video elements, and DASH/Shaka player media streams so you can select and download them.
B. "storage" Permission
- Purpose: Required to store local settings and application state on your browser.
- Detailed Use: This permission is used exclusively to save your UI preferences, temporary download options, local usage count (for the free trial version), and premium activation state. Data saved via Chrome storage remains local to your browser device.
C. "cookies" Permission
- Purpose: Required for secure authentication with our licensing server (MyExtHub).
- Detailed Use: This permission is used strictly to read authentication session tokens from https://myexthub.com to automatically verify your active Pro subscription or free trial status when you log in to your MyExtHub account. We do NOT read, store, or access eBay cookies or third-party cookies.
D. Host Permissions ("*://*.ebay.com/*", "*://*.ebay.co.uk/*", etc.)
- Purpose: Required to access regional eBay listing pages across all supported eBay domains.
- Detailed Use: This allows the extension to detect product media on regional eBay domains (including .com, .co.uk, .de, .fr, .it, .es, .com.au, .ca, .pl, etc.). The extension only acts on active eBay product pages when initiated by the user to locate media files for download.
E. Host Permission ("https://myexthub.com/*")
- Purpose: Required to communicate with our licensing backend API.
- Detailed Use: Used to verify license keys, check subscription status, and sync email addresses for user authentication for Premium/Pro tier access.
3. DATA PROCESSING & STORAGE
- Local Processing: All media extraction, image selection, resolution upgrades (up to 1600px), and ZIP archive creation occur 100% locally within your web browser. No product photos, videos, or downloaded files are ever uploaded to our servers.
- Account Information: If you choose to upgrade to Pro via MyExtHub, we collect basic account information (such as your email address and payment/license status) managed securely via MyExtHub. No payment details (credit card info) are processed or stored by the extension itself.
4. THIRD-PARTY SERVICES & SHARING
We do not sell, trade, rent, or transfer your personal data or browsing activity to any third parties. We do not use third-party analytics or ad trackers inside the extension.
5. SECURITY
We employ industry-standard security measures and modern Manifest V3 security guidelines to safeguard local extension data and license verification API calls.
