Jamie is a 32 year old married lady (with a new baby!!) who is in denial that she's actually that old to be a married lady and a mom. When she's not reading you can find her doing Pilates followed by eating ice cream, belting out Hamilton (loud and offkey) and having adventures with her husband, daughter and rescue dog.

Hello Jamie! Being a working person, I can only get free time on weekends and in my free time I love to read books. Yesterday I read your blog and found a list of many interesting books. I bookmarked your blog and will visit every weekend. Thanks for sharing such an amazing blog.

These are some of my favorite recommendations of books for beginner adult readers who want to enjoy reading again. No matter what interests you, there should be at least one book here to get you started and help you fall in love with reading.

Allison is a dedicated book lover, writer, and lifelong learner with an undeniable passion for books and reading. As the founder of Mind Joggle, she helps busy, overwhelmed women reclaim their mental space and make books a transformative part of their lives. She holds an Ed.M in Technology in Education from Harvard University and a BS in Scientific and Technical Communication from the University of Minnesota.

The Martian - This was another recommendation i've found on Reddit. I have read a bit more than half the book. It is easy to read. But again, space not really my cup of tea.. Combine that with math and im out. (and i have seen the movie, so that takes away from it a bit, i guess.)

In order to understand the grammar and to remember vocabulary, you need to encounter them in a meaningful way. This is where reading books comes in. (As well as other activities, such as conversations with others.)

There are many early reading titles that have been created to meet the needs of newly independent readers (typically kids in kindergarten through 2nd grade), with easy-to-follow plots, simple vocabulary, and plenty of sight words, including those in the Raise a Reader sets.

The most important thing you can do to support your early reader is to help them love reading, says Katie Carella, a former teacher and executive editor at Scholastic who oversees the Acorn and Branches book series for early readers.

"When I was teaching, that moment where I saw kids light up about a book was when I knew I'd made a difference," says Carella. "If you miss that window in the first, second, or third grade, kids go on to say, 'I'm not a reader' and 'I don't like reading.'"

The books in the Acorn line provide an entertaining perspective on topics kids care about. Your child will grow their reading confidence with the short chapters, each of which can be read as a stand-alone story. Each book has a Grade 1 Scholastic reading level, but is designed to appeal to kids in kindergarten through second grade.

Even if your child can read these books from memory, "every word read, in each and every book, is valuable to their beginning literacy skills," says Burnett. These so-called "baby books" are great options to revisit once your kids start reading on their own.

Branches books are specifically designed to help early readers work their way up to traditional chapter books. Branches books have more illustrations than chapter books, but offer more complexity than other early readers.

With accessible text, fast-paced plots, and plenty of cliffhangers, Branches books encourage kids to keep reading. If kids can connect to the first book in the series, they have a ready-made trove of reading material they'll love.

When you access books and read in ways that reflect your needs and reading style, you find enjoyment in reading and get more from books. So, whether you're reading for leisure or learning, access to books enables you to thrive, in school, at work and at home.

Frog and Toad by Arnold Lobel

To me, this is the classic easy reader chapter book series. We have several of them on Audible and Star listens to them almost daily during quiet time. The stories are so clever and fun, even for adults.

Charlie and Mouse by Laurel Snyder, illustrated by Emily Hughes

This is a fairly new easy reader chapter book series and I absolutely LOVE it (there are currently three in the series). It follows two young brothers who have the sweetest relationship and have all sorts of little adventures, from selling rocks to inventing a bedtime banana (as one does).

Ling & Ting: Not Exactly the Same by Grace Lin

I love these books about identical twins who look exactly the same but very different in many ways. From making birthday cakes to how they spend their free time, they are both true individuals.

Henry & Mudge by Cynthia Rylant, illustrated Sucie Stevenson

Aside from Frog & Toad, this is the classic easy reader chapter book series in my opinion. There are SO MANY of them, and the adventures of this young boy and his massive somewhat-ill-behaved dog never get old. 17dc91bb1f
