I've got a lot of pagan friends…Some call themselves "Pagan", some call themselves Wiccan, Some call themselves "Witches", or whatever. I've got one friend that is a dedicated Satannist and is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet, and an excellent colonial gamer and figure painter.

In fact, I was interested in paganism for a while, and I took a look at it. I delved into "old norse religion", "Celtic paganism", "Wicca", etc…and in the long run, decided that it just wasn't for me. While its acceptable to some as it fits their lifestyle, it doesn't fit mine. Perhaps it may have worked for my ancestors, but it doesn't work for me.

That being said, I "consider" myself Christian. I'm not a hard core bible thumping roll in the dirt, speaking in tongues, handle snakes, beat my back into bloody strips deviant slave to God…

As they say…To each their own. I've been asked to leave churches in the middle of a service because the pastor was uncomfortable at the thought of me asking him a "Where in the WORLD did YOU get THAT idea from?" question when I thought that he was saying something horribly stupid or waaaaay out of context.

I consider myself more spiritual than "church going christian", and I don't think that God holds it against me if I don't wear a necktie to church.

Lately though, I've noticed something…

Many of my "Pagan Friends"..seem to have a hostile, (some discreet, some not so discreet) attitude towards Christianity.

This weekend I got a few emails from my "Pagan Friends"…"wishing" me a Happy Easter.

Now..none of them said "Happy Easter"…instead many of them said things like "Happy Jesus is a Zombie day"..or "Happy Bringing your crucified god back to life day"…or something like that.

It wasn't as much as they haven't done this before, but a lot of it just reads "hostile".

So I talked with some of them last night, and I openly asked them what it was about, and the four of them that I talked to ALL said the same thing. "I wanted to wish you a happy easter"…

"So why didn't you just put Happy Easter, instead of some weird snarky message?" I would ask.

And then all four of them went off on some little tangent about "how "their" religion had been persecuted throughout history by "the christian church", etc…etc…etc.."

So I asked them "Does what happend to people that have been dead for over 400 years give YOU the right act this way towards me, or others???"

And strangely enough, 2 of them said "yes", and the other two tried to "explain" their actions by "using history".

Look…I understand the whole topic and issue of "The Burning Times",…hell the biggest enemy to Christianity is NOT Satan, it's christians themselves. Look at history…Protestants vs Catholics….The Religious upheavals of Europe. My "Gawd is better than Your Gawd", some of this mentality still affects Ireland today…and let's not EVEN discuss the concept of "THE TEXAS SOUTHERN BAPTIST"…

Now the thing is…I've never, NEVER sent them a "holiday" greeting saying, "Happy Day of Rebirth of your Pseudo Self Created Manifestation of your God and Goddess as proposed by New Age thought, and LLewellynn publishing…" or anything like that…

Goldwyrm has kind of hit it on the head. I've know quite a few folks who have had "bad" experiences in "the church" (fill in your particular branch of Christianity here). As such I can understand their hostile feelings towards the "broader" Christian world. Still, it is boorish and lacks style to come out and make such comments to someone who has not done anything to merit such a response. This is particularly true when the person is a friend. You are correct, it is a sad, sad situation. May I give you my Happy Easter greetings.
