Although actually a reflection nebula, I have included this with the dark nebulae as there are several areas of dark nebulosity in the background of the image.
Hind's Variable Nebula, (also known as NGC1555, Sh2-238 or HH 155), is actually a reflection nebula of variable brightness due to changes in its illuminating, star T - Tauri, and is located in the constellation Taurus. The nebula is the area of yellow / orange brightness towards the centre of the image.
Hind’s Nebula is a Herbig-Haro (HH) object; these are bright patches of nebulosity in which new stars are forming. They are formed when narrow jets of partially ionised gas ejected by stars collide with nearby clouds of gas and dust. HH objects are transient phenomena that last around a few tens of thousands of years. They can change visibly over timescales of a few years as they move rapidly away from their parent star into the gas clouds of interstellar space.
