The Spider and The Fly Nebulae
The Spider and The Fly Nebulae
Caught in the spider’s web.
This image was taken in ‘narrowband’ rather than ‘true’ RGB colour and shows the Spider and Fly nebulae (IC417 and NGC 1931), which are located approximately 10,000 and 7,000 light-years respectively from the Earth in the constellation of Auriga.
The two bright stars in the Spider are foreground objects and not part of the nebula. The brightest star is designated Phi Aurigae and is only about 450 light years from the Earth.
