In: Thunderbolts, The Masters

techno (Earth-7)

Norbert Ebersol, known as Fixer, is a technological genius whose entire existence began as an experiment. Created as a fully synthetic embryo through advanced genetic engineering, he was born to fulfill his parents' dream of having a biological child. However, the experimental process left him afflicted with a progressive techno-organic virus that gradually transformed his body into machinery. Forced to rely on technology to survive, Norbert embraced the condition that threatened to destroy him, becoming one of the criminal underworld's most brilliant inventors. After years spent building weapons and advanced technology for some of the world's greatest criminal masterminds, he was recruited into Baron Zemo's ranks and eventually reinvented himself as the cybernetic hero known as Techno.

Biography

Early Life

Norbert Ebersol was born to an upper-middle-class couple who desperately wanted a biological child despite being unable to conceive naturally. To achieve this, they agreed to an extremely expensive and experimental procedure offered by Essex Corp.

Rather than being conceived conventionally, Norbert was created as a 100% synthetic embryo, genetically engineered from the DNA of both parents. Although the procedure successfully produced a healthy child, it remained in a testing phase, and the long-term consequences were unknown.

For several years, Norbert appeared perfectly normal. As he grew older, however, he began displaying unusual symptoms. Doctors eventually discovered that he suffered from a rare techno-organic virus, a condition that would continue progressing throughout his life.

The disease forced him to become increasingly dependent on machines and advanced technology. At the same time, it slowly transformed portions of his body into cybernetic constructs. The treatments required to slow the condition proved enormously expensive, and eventually Norbert's parents exhausted their financial resources. Worse still, their agreement with Essex Corp. protected the company from any responsibility for illnesses that might emerge in the future, leaving the family without support.

Faced with a worsening condition and few alternatives, Norbert turned to the criminal underworld. There he began using his extraordinary intelligence and technical expertise to survive.

Adopting the codename Fixer, he quickly established himself as a gifted inventor and engineer. His talents eventually attracted the attention of the criminal mastermind Thinkerer, under whom he served as an apprentice. Working alongside some of the most dangerous villains in the world, Norbert designed advanced weapons, sophisticated equipment, and revolutionary inventions capable of allowing ordinary criminals to challenge superhuman heroes.

His growing reputation made him one of the most valuable technological minds in organized crime, and his accomplishments eventually drew the attention of Baron Zemo, who recruited him into the Masters. As one of the group's most dangerous assets, Fixer became recognized as a significant threat to the Avengers and other heroic organizations.

The Man machine

Following his recruitment into Baron Zemo's operations, Norbert became involved in the newest incarnation of the Thunderbolts, bringing his unparalleled technological expertise to the team.

By this point, the techno-organic virus that had shaped his entire life had progressed dramatically. Rather than continuing to resist the transformation, Norbert ultimately embraced it, allowing the virus to complete its work.

The process consumed what remained of his organic body and transformed him into a being of entirely cybernetic physiology. Despite this change, his form still resembles ordinary biology, though beneath the surface he is effectively a living machine. His connection to technology has become so profound that he is practically one with the technological world around him.

With this rebirth came a new identity: Techno.

As Techno, Norbert possesses a completely cybernetic body and a unique relationship with machinery that surpasses anything he could achieve as Fixer alone. The condition that once threatened to ruin his life has instead become the source of his greatest strength.

Unlike many former criminals attempting to reinvent themselves, Norbert genuinely enjoys his new public image. He relishes being admired, gaining fans, and finally being viewed as attractive, heroic, and worthy of attention. The recognition he receives as Techno provides something he never possessed during his years as a sickly experimental child or a criminal inventor hidden behind the scenes.

Today, Norbert Ebersol stands as Techno: a technological prodigy whose life began as a scientific experiment, whose body was reshaped by a techno-organic virus, and whose genius transformed him from one of the criminal world's greatest inventors into a cybernetic superhuman celebrated by the public.
