Biography 

Origin

 The A.I.M. project, sponsored by the Nefaria family, sought to create a genetic army of ruthless beasts; and from the very first tests, they sought to combine all the lineages of the animal kingdom into a single being—one that would possess the most useful characteristics of a fish, mammal, bird, reptile, and amphibian, yet remain relentless in its hunt.

Fish - Base species: Shark

• Streamlined, muscular body.

• Powerful jaws and multiple rows of teeth.

• Extremely strong sense of smell.

• Electroreception, allowing him to detect electrical activity.

• Lateral-line-like sensitivity to vibrations and movement.

• Powerful swimming ability.

• Regenerative capacity associated with certain fish tissues.

• Ability to tolerate low-oxygen environments.

Birds

Aerial and sensory adaptations

• Lightweight but extremely durable skeleton.

• Hollow or air-filled bones to reduce weight.

• Exceptional eyesight and motion detection.

• High metabolic efficiency.

• Powerful respiratory system inspired by avian air sacs, allowing sustained activity.

Mammals

Intelligence, adaptability and thermoregulation

• Endothermy, allowing him to maintain a stable body temperature.

Reptiles

Armor, endurance and survival

• Powerful jaw and neck musculature.

• Ability to slow his metabolism when food is scarce.

• Strong claws and gripping limbs.

• Exceptional tolerance to heat.

• Improved ability to survive for long periods without food.

The combination would make Jeff essentially a hyper-adapted vertebrate: a shark's predatory anatomy and electroreception, a bird's vision and respiratory efficiency, a mammal's intelligence and endothermy, an amphibian's regeneration and environmental flexibility, and a reptile's armor and survival capabilities.

His body could retain the recognizable small land-shark appearance, while internally functioning as a bizarre synthesis of all five vertebrate lineages.

Found by Avengers

 A single prototype was completed and was to be presented before the collaboration continued, but Count Nefaria’s daughter discovered her father’s plans—or at least his ties to the criminal underworld—and decided to attack the negotiation while disguised as a vigilante.

 The young woman would not have survived had the Avengers not also discovered the operation, stepping in as soon as the girl revealed herself. During the battle, the containment box was damaged, allowing the creature to break free and escape; it was Kate Bishop who decided to protect it, making sure it wasn’t captured again, and in doing so, she discovered the animal’s docile nature.

As Jeff

 The Avengers were convinced that the creature meant no harm and that it should be protected from its creators, so they allowed Kate to take the animal with her to the Avengers Academy, a shelter for young heroes. Under Kate’s care, it was named Jeff, the Land Shark.
