Psylocke (Earth-7)

Kwannon, also known as Revanche and later Psylocke, is a mutant from Tokyo, Japan, trained as a deadly ninja assassin. Born with powerful psionic abilities, she was sold as a child to the Hand and raised without identity, molded into a weapon of death. Her life was marked by manipulation from shadowy organizations such as the Hand, the Ten Rings, and the Mandarin, before she carved her own path. Though trained to be a killer, Kwannon struggled to reclaim her humanity, eventually stepping into the mantle of Psylocke, seeking to honor its legacy as a symbol of a hero rather than an assassin.

Biography

Early Life

As a newborn mutant, Kwannon was sold to the Hand, a powerful network of assassins that trafficked mutant infants. Stripped of identity, she was raised as a weapon, her psionic gifts used to dominate and lobotomize new soldiers, erasing their humanity. For a time, she was little more than a living tool, molded to serve others.

Her abilities soon drew the attention of the Mandarin, who stole her from the Hand to serve his interests. Through the Ten Rings, she was sent to Madripoor and trained by Lord Nyoirin, who honed her skills into those of a psionic ninja capable of forming lethal psychic blades. She took the name Kwannon and grew into a feared warrior, becoming known as Revanché—a mercenary assassin whose skills commanded a high price.

Lady Mandarin

The Mandarin saw in her the potential to fulfill the original designs of the Ten Rings. Kwannon was meant to become Lady Mandarin, the ultimate warrior, her body and mind prepared for forced fusion and the amalgamation of mutant minds. This destiny would made her a highly sought-after asset, with many factions desiring control of her formidable powers.

At one point, Kwannon was invited to serve as the Mandarin’s personal bodyguard. Her final mission under his command was to assassinate Professor Charles Xavier, a target embroiled in global political conflicts due to his activism for mutants. However, this assignment forced Kwannon to confront her morality. She began to question whether her life should remain bound to bloodshed and servitude. So she accepted the invite of Charles Xavier and Joined the X-Men.

X-Men Disbanded

After the disbanding of the X-Men, Kwannon sought to uncover her past and true self. Returning to Madripoor, she reunited with Lord Nyoirin, who revealed her intended fate as Lady Mandarin and her place in the Mandarin’s greater plans.

But Kwannon resisted this destiny. When confronted by Tomi Shishido of the Hand, who offered her a place among his assassins, she refused, believing that the identity of Psylocke had once stood for honor. To her, Psylocke symbolized a hero who spared rather than slaughtered—a mantle she was determined not to stain.
