Clint Barton, better known as Hawkeye, is a master archer whose skill rivals the finest marksmen in history. Raised in hardship, Clint grew up an orphan and found his way into the criminal underworld through a traveling circus. Trained under mentors both inspiring and corrupt, he developed unmatched precision and survival instincts. Although his path was marked by betrayal and crime, Clint ultimately found redemption when he aligned himself with S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Secret Avengers. His story is one of resilience—an orphan who became a weapon, then a hero.
Clint Barton and his twin brother Barney were abandoned after their parents were accused of child abuse and neglect. Sent to an orphanage, the brothers soon ran away to survive on the streets, stealing and scraping by on petty crimes. Their lives changed when they encountered Mr. Maynard Tiboldt, a circus ringmaster who recognized potential in their resourcefulness and acrobatics, taking them into his traveling show.
Within the circus, Clint and Barney trained under Buck Chisholm, a former acrobat crippled in an accident, who reshaped them into child stars known as Trickshot and Hawkeye. The brothers gradually became entangled in the Circus of Crime, a front for smuggling weapons and drugs across the United States for mafia-connected groups.
At sixteen, Barney married Zelda DuBois (stage performer Princess Python), who became a key negotiator for the group’s criminal operations. This alliance pushed Barney deeper into organized crime and distanced him from Clint, who eventually struck out on his own path.
Recognized for his uncanny precision and discipline, Clint caught the attention of Jacques DuQuesne, a wealthy French mercenary working as the Swordsman.
DuQuesne trained Clint not just in archery but in survival—teaching him how to endure betrayal, disposal, and the grim realities of mercenary life. Despite becoming one of the world’s most skilled marksmen, Clint was framed by DuQuesne, who used him as a scapegoat for his mafia connections. Left to face the consequences, Clint was tried and convicted, while DuQuesne vanished to start anew.
After his arrest, Clint’s knowledge of criminal organizations became his saving grace. He offered S.H.I.E.L.D. detailed intelligence on mafia networks, cartels, and mercenary operations, a bargaining chip that granted him amnesty in exchange for service.
Clint agreed to work with S.H.I.E.L.D. as a field agent, eventually becoming part of the Secret Avengers project. For the first time in his life, Clint was no longer a pawn or scapegoat—he was an asset, using his skills for something larger than survival.
