In: Heroes for Hire

powerwoman (earth-7)

Jessica Jones is a trauma-scarred survivor whose life was shaped by loss, manipulation, and fractured identity. After a catastrophic accident involving Roxxon, she developed superhuman abilities and became the hero Jewel under S.H.I.E.L.D. However, her life was shattered by the psychological domination of Zebediah Killgrave, leading her to abandon heroism and rebuild herself as a private investigator, constantly haunted by her past.

biography

Early Life

Before her coma, Jessica remembers very little about her early life. Most details about her family, school years, and upbringing are fragmented—except for a faint memory of her crush on Peter Parker.

Her life changed forever after a collision with a Roxxon truck, an accident that killed her brother and left her in a coma. Months later, she awoke physically altered, with pink hair and purple eyes. According to Christine Palmer, these mutations were the result of extreme exposure to experimental compounds.

The S.H.I.E.L.D. intervened, placing Jessica under protection and observation. Testing revealed superhuman strength, enhanced durability, and the ability to manipulate gravitational fields, allowing her to fly. To reintegrate her into society, she was placed in a witness protection program and raised by the Jones family.

Determined to use her powers for good, Jessica became a S.H.I.E.L.D. field agent under the codename Jewel. Though she rarely took center stage, she assisted the Avengers on several missions. During this time, she formed connections with heroes such as Jessica Drew, Jennifer Walters, and Carol Danvers.

At some point, Jessica disappeared for nearly five years. During that time, she fell under the control of Killgrave, the Purple Man—an individual capable of commanding others with his voice. Under his influence, Jessica was stripped of her autonomy and used as a personal weapon. The experience left deep psychological scars.

When she was finally freed, lingering effects of his control caused her to attack members of the Avengers, including Scarlet Witch and Captain America. This led to a violent response from Thor, whose strike sent her into a second coma.

the power couple part ii

Five years after being freed from Killgrave, Jessica is no longer under his control, but the damage remains. S.H.I.E.L.D. has severed ties with her, though some personal relationships endured—especially with Jennifer Walters, who helped her establish Alias Investigations.

Now working as a private investigator, Jessica has abandoned her former identity as a superhero. Her appearance has changed and her idealism has given way to a more cynical and self-destructive lifestyle.

Even so, the possibility of redemption still lingers. Beneath the trauma and disillusionment, Jessica Jones may one day return to heroism—not as Jewel, but as someone stronger, more self-defined. And perhaps, with the right partner, she might be willing to try again.
