Their civilization resisted the expansion of the Universal Church of Truth, a powerful religious force seeking to impose its doctrine across the galaxy. Unable to convert the Zen-Whoberi, the Church responded with genocide, massacring the population. Gamora survived only because her mother hid her before the slaughter.

However, her transformation into the “Deadliest Woman in the Galaxy” was not achieved through strength alone—it was completed when Thanos indoctrinated her into his belief system.

Under his influence, Gamora came to worship Death, not as an end, but as liberation.
