Brunnhilde, the first and greatest of the Valkyries, is an immortal emissary of death born from Odin’s grief and the prophecy of Ragnarok itself. Created to carry fallen souls to Valhalla and preserve the sacred order of Asgard, she became a timeless figure who exists beyond eras, kingdoms, and even destiny. Mounted upon her winged companion Aragorn and armed with the legendary Dragonfang, Brunnhilde serves as both warrior and psychopomp, guiding the dead with compassion rather than judgment. As Ragnarok approaches once more, she stands among the final defenders of the sacred timeline, fully aware that the fall of Asgard may already be inevitable.
Millions of years ago, as the age of the gods still flourished, Bor, father of Odin, approached death and prepared to make his final Síđasta Ósk, the sacred last wish a father may demand from his firstborn before passing into non-existence. The request he made was devastating.
Bor commanded Odin to exile his own brother, Cul Borson, from existence itself.
Through prophetic visions, Bor had foreseen that Cul would become a central figure in the coming of Ragnarok, the prophesied end of the gods. His obsession with occult secrets and forbidden darkness would eventually consume him entirely and lead countless others into ruin. Though Odin loved his brother deeply, he understood that refusing Bor’s final request was impossible.
Unable to destroy Cul outright, Odin devised another solution. He challenged his brother to a duel to the death, falsely claiming that the battle itself had been Bor’s dying wish. The conflict lasted for several days. Despite being far stronger, Odin hesitated constantly, unable to fully commit to killing the brother he loved. In the end, Cul was not defeated through strength, but through sheer exhaustion.
Once the battle was over, Odin ordered the Triads to invoke Cul’s final destination.
From this command, Brunnhilde was born.
She emerged as a tall and imposing woman, cold and loyal as death itself, accompanied by a massive winged beast nearly twice her size. The creature became known as Aragorn, and the woman would forever be remembered as the first Valkyrie. Together they crossed the skies carrying Cul Borson’s defeated body in Brunnhilde’s arms while she sang a mournful avian lament to honor the fallen god.
Her journey ended before the immense golden gates leading into Valhalla, the endless hall reserved for those who resisted despair and died within the struggles of their own battles. There, Brunnhilde fulfilled her purpose for the first time, becoming the bridge between death and eternity.
As ages passed, the origins of the first Valkyrie faded into myth. The story was gradually forgotten by gods and mortals alike, erased by time while Brunnhilde herself endured eternally. Unlike kingdoms and rulers, she remained unchanged, continuing her sacred duty across countless generations.
Because of this permanence, Brunnhilde became essential to the preservation of existence itself. The Defenders eventually chose her as one of the central figures responsible for repairing and protecting the sacred timeline as Ragnarok’s return grew closer. According to prophecy, she may be the only one destined to survive the coming catastrophe.
Like all Asgardians, Brunnhilde also possesses a spiritual counterpart capable of manifesting within the earthly dimension. Through these mortal analogues, the gods can walk Midgard while retaining fragments of their divine essence. Thor manifests through Donald Blake, Amora through Sylvie Lushton, while Loki frequently inhabits vulnerable mortal vessels in his endless attempts to evade fate and corruption alike.
Brunnhilde’s earthly host became Barbara Norris.
The prophecy of Ragnarok has begun unfolding once more.
Its rebirth started with the liberation of Cul Borson at the hands of the God Butcher, who gathered an army of monstrous and unholy beings to wage war against Asgard itself. According to prophecy, the kingdom of the gods will inevitably fall. Though many refuse to accept this fate, Brunnhilde understands that some destinies cannot truly be avoided. The children of Odin reacted differently to the approaching apocalypse.
Loki attempted to escape destiny by dividing his spirit into a younger and mortal form, hoping to evade the role prophecy demanded of him. Yet even fragmented, Loki’s divine self remains tied to Ragnarok and must still stand beside the Triad Sisters in the final conflict.
Thor, after spending many years distant from Asgard in favor of Midgard, eventually returned to his homeland once the scale of the coming disaster became undeniable. Now he seeks alliances and united forces capable of preventing the complete destruction of his people and kingdom. Brunnhilde, however, sees the truth more clearly than any of them, she believes the battle is already lost.
Despite this grim certainty, she continues to fulfill her role as leader of the Valkyrior. Her armor and ceremonial garments symbolize death not as cruelty, but as compassion. Valkyries do not determine fate, nor do they condemn souls. Instead, they act as guides who escort the fallen toward the destiny they have already earned.
At Brunnhilde’s side remains her legendary weapon, Dragonfang, a mystical sword forged by Eitri himself from one of Magog’s torn teeth. The weapon was created after a catastrophic battle against the monstrous creature, which had been summoned by the Dark Elves during an attempted invasion of Valhalla.
Now, with Ragnarok drawing ever closer and the sacred timeline beginning to fracture, Brunnhilde rides once more beside Aragorn as the eternal herald of the end. She stands between life and death, hope and inevitability, fully prepared to guide gods and mortals alike into whatever future survives the fall of Asgard.
