Biography 

Early Life

David Alleyne grew up as a gifted and hardworking student, celebrated for his academic excellence and insatiable drive for success. He was known for his golden discipline, always aiming for perfection and standing out among his peers. Teachers and mentors admired him, and he was even invited to join a special program for young scientists sponsored by Roxxon, where he was surrounded by other prodigious minds.

The Secret

Despite his many achievements, David carried a secret that gnawed at him. He began to question his own intelligence, wondering if his brilliance was entirely natural. His discomfort grew as his powers subtly revealed themselves: he wasn’t simply smart—he was absorbing knowledge from others without trying. Though he kept this hidden for some time, it weighed heavily on him, making him feel like a fraud and pushing him toward isolation.

Roxxon

During his time with Roxxon, David and his peers were introduced to cutting-edge technology, including a prototype Sentinel processor designed by Bolivar Trask. When the group activated the device, it detected David’s latent X-gene, confirming his mutant identity in front of Roxxon officials. This revelation turned David from a promising young scientist into a target of corporate exploitation. Roxxon sought to use his abilities for their own ends, and David found himself captured and sent to a Mutant Detention Center.

It was here that David met Thomas Shepherd (Speed), another young mutant imprisoned by Roxxon. Though opposites in temperament—David being disciplined and cerebral, Thomas being reckless and fiery—the two quickly realized their powers complemented each other perfectly. David provided strategy, planning, and invention, while Speed supplied the force and quick action needed to survive.

In captivity, David’s resourcefulness shone. He scavenged and repurposed parts, secretly collecting components until he was able to construct a communicator. With Speed’s help, they successfully built a device capable of reaching the Avengers’ public radio line. Their message exposed Roxxon’s illegal detention centers and the exploitation of dozens of young mutants, forcing Roxxon’s operations into the light.
