When Digger reached a certain age, he began committing thefts to support himself. But the first time he used his boomerang skills during a crime, he realized that with this ability, he could be unbeatable. And so it was, Harkness crafted a makeshit Boomerang costume and began operating across the country, quickly catching the attention of Hugh Dawkins, the Tasmanian Devil. Dawkins launched an investigation, and after countless chases, repeatedly sent the villain back to prison.

In a desperate attempt to rid himself of the hero, Harkness kidnapped the president's daughter, using her as bait to lure Dawkins into a trap. Soon after, the Heroe arrived at the scene, narrowly escaping the ambush, and attacked Digger, throwing him to the ground and biting his left arm. Panicked, Digger used a pocketknife to sever his own arm and kicked the Tasmanian Devil away, fleeing while covered in his own Urine. 

After yet another failed robbery, Digger decided to move to America, Specifically, Central City. During his first Bank heist there Boomerang faced a new threat: Flash, the Scarlet Speedster, who quickly sent him to prison. Recognizing the potential ins his hands, Amanda Waller transferred him to Belle Reve Penitentiary, placing him under her own deisngs.
