Biography 

Early Life

Helena Rosa Bertinelli was born into one of Gotham City’s most powerful crime families. The Bertinelli empire, led by her father Guido Bertinelli, refused to submit to the secret dominion of the Court of Owls, a decision that sealed their fate. Betrayed from within by Tobias Whale, the Court orchestrated the massacre of the entire Bertinelli family. 

 Helena alone survived, spirited away to the Italian countryside, where she was raised and trained by a retired Talon of the Court of Owls. There, she was shaped into a weapon, forging a life defined by discipline, precision, and a singular purpose: revenge.

As Huntress

 Returning to the United States, Helena became the vigilante known as Huntress, hunting down every name on her revenge list—crime lords, financiers, and conspirators tied to her family’s destruction. Ruthless and uncompromising, she stood apart from Gotham’s other vigilantes, guided less by ideals and more by the certainty that some evils could only be ended permanently.

Early in her career, Huntress crossed paths with Barbara Gordon, then operating as Batgirl. Their uneasy alliance began while investigating the Ghost Dragons, a criminal syndicate tied to Russian mob interests and a KGB-linked counterfeiting operation known as HAMMER. As the case unraveled, Helena’s personal history resurfaced through Tony Bressi, a mobster and former family associate whose crimes included horrific abuse tied to Helena’s childhood. The investigation escalated into a violent underground war involving Redzone, KGBeast, and rival criminal factions.

Throughout the conflict, Helena’s lethal instincts repeatedly clashed with Barbara’s moral restraint. Yet, through betrayal, near-death encounters, and brutal confrontations, Huntress was forced to confront the cost of her vengeance. When given the chance to finish her revenge at the expense of her own life, Helena chose survival over obsession—recognizing that vengeance no longer had to define her future.

Birds of Prey

Oracle’s growing influence made her a perceived global threat. The United Nations placed her under surveillance through the Spy Smasher program, fearing her access to information could destabilize international order. The assigned agent, Katarina Armstrong, infiltrated Barbara’s life, prompting Oracle to preemptively form her own covert strike team to prove her value as an ally rather than an enemy.

 She chose Huntress, her most ruthless confidant, and Black Canary, the world’s most skilled fighter. Together, the trio infiltrated a hidden League of Assassins base, captured David Cain, and delivered him directly into UN custody during a televised summit.

  There, Oracle hacked the world’s leaders simultaneously, demonstrating both her power and her restraint. Revealing themselves as the Birds of Prey, the group declared a new form of international justice. 

Though still fierce and unyielding, Helena Bertinelli began redirecting her skills away from pure retribution and toward a broader war on organized crime. As Huntress, she remains a feared figure in the criminal underworld—walking the line between justice and vengeance, forever marked by loss, but no longer ruled solely by it.
