Victor Fries began his career as a professional chemist and weapons manufacturer, gaining notoriety in Gotham’s underworld as a reliable contact for crime-lords. His skills allowed him to build not only deadly weapons but also bizarre and extravagant creations to match the demands of Gotham’s super-criminals, from giant coins and animatronic dinosaurs to entire amusement parks for their twisted schemes.

Despite his lucrative role, Victor’s true passion was his personal research, into which he funneled all his earnings. His greatest obsession was solving the ultimate equation: a cure for inevitable death.

A Cure for Nora Fries

At the center of this obsession was his wife, Nora Fries, who suffered from a painful, incurable disease that would eventually atrophy her body. Refusing to lose her, Victor placed Nora into a cryogenic chamber, convinced he could preserve her life indefinitely—even though it was against her will.

As Mr. Freeze

A decade passed, and Nora remained frozen while Victor’s experiments consumed him. Over time, the very chemical research he conducted altered his own physiology, leaving him unable to survive outside freezing temperatures. To live, he was forced to rely on a technological cryogenic suit, transforming him permanently into Mr. Freeze.

Now, he exists as a widower and mad scientist, utterly dependent on his inventions. Though still a valuable ally to Gotham’s criminal elite, his every action is haunted by grief, his love for Nora twisted into obsession, and his humanity consumed by the cold.
