Born Dec. 20, 1915, in Washington to Andrew A. and Anina Gossman Zimmerman, he married Anna Mae Kimpling on Nov. 6, 1941, in Kahoka, Missouri.
He was a World War II Navy Seabee veteran.
He was a general contractor in Washington for 20 years and later was supervisor of assessments of Tazewell County for 20 years.
He was mayor of Washington from 1953 to 1957. He was a senior member of the Society of Real Estate Appraisers. He was the first certified assessment evaluator in the state of Illinois and the first certified Illinois assessing official in the state.
He was director of the Illinois Property Assessment Institute. He was chairman of the Tazewell County Board of Zoning Appeals.
He was a member of the Washington Planning Commission.
He was past president of the Peoria Chapter of the Society of Real Estate Appraisers. He was the past director of the International Assessing Officers and past president of the Assessing Officials of Illinois. He was chairman of the Certified Illinois Assessing Officers.
He was a past member of the International Assessing Officials Admissions Committee.
He was an elected lifetime honorary member of the Division of Assessors of the state of Illinois and the Illinois Property Assessments Institute.
He was a past director of Washington Federal Savings and Loan Association. He was the recipient of the Washingtonion of the Year Award in 1971. He was a member of Guadalcanal Campaign Veterans Association and American Legion Post 100. He was a member of Washington Civic Club.
He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Washington.
Earl passed away October 27, 1993, and is buried in Glendale Cemetery.
