helping residents near Tweed write Environmental Assesment letters

Helping you participate in the 2022/2023TWEED (EA) Environmental Assesment

An EA (Environmental Assessment) determines if changes of a major federal action, will be "affecting the quality of the human environment."  The EA is part of the NEPA Process (National Environmental Process Act)

There is a short window to raise questions & concerns -- it's now!

Speaking up now, could help create a more in-depth process called an (EIS) Environmental Impact Statement, which is what determined in 2000 that TWEED should not make any changes because the Impact would be too great  - we want an EIS

If we do not speak now, we will not be able to make legal arguments later.

Each topic has sample letters formats to help you

make your voice count, here's how

If you want to learn more about the process go to the History tab.

If you just want to get started click each topic for links to letters.

Taking the advice of a wise teacher and not letting better, become the enemy of good.  We only have a couple samples under NOISE for now. However, if you are a fan of legalese and want to volunteer to draft one under a topic that interests you please send an email to tweedcommunityinfo@gmail.com

What is NEPA

aka THE UMBRELLA ACT

NEPA is The National Environmental Act that determines what can be considered in an EA & how an EA takes place

An EA determines if a "major federal action significantly affecting the quality of the human environment." needs to be addressed.

The  EA must explain the need for the proposed project, the alternatives considered, and the environmental impacts of each alternative.

An EIS is more in depth - we clearly need this. (Environmental Impact Statement) In order to attain an EIS we must raise questions about the depth, and quality of the current data as well as raise all our concerns .
