Outline
The course divides into two halves - a theoretical half and a practical half.
The theory part covers 6 topics and ends with the close reading of an article

Labov - R in New York - all must read
Look through all the articles, enough to undertand what they are about. Choose one article to read more closely. The essential reading is indicated after the article link

Evaluation

1. Test 1 - Overview and Labov
This will be a short quizz that covers the topics discussed in class and the short article by Labov.
2. Test 2 – Close Reading
The will be a short test that covers the close reading of an article.
3. Project – Analysis and Report on your own work
This will represent half of the cours contents and consist of
25% - Data Collection (group work)
75% - Report (Individual work)

The theoretical half ends with a short in class test worth 20% of the final mark.
The practical part ends with a report that is worth 80% of the final mark.
Note- If the course is failed, the second session exam is the report - there is no "DST" in second session.

Instructions for Session 2 (resit exams)
The requirements for session 2 consist of the (re-)submission of the project for on variation and grammaticality
The instructions are identical to session 1, except for the data collection (you do not need to re-do the questionnaires).
Your mark will be be given out of 15 and converted to a mark of 20. See the instructions for the report for detailed information on the marking barème.
