Our mission is to expose young and talented musicians to the exquisite beauty of the chamber music repertoire. By doing so, we aim to enhance their motivation and appreciation for classical music, as well as their instrument. Students will get to work with highly regarded professionals who are passionate about guiding them and providing them insights to achieve their full potential.
Bill Barbini, Music Director
William Barbini is a graduate of The Juilliard School and former member of the New York Philharmonic, where he appeared twice as soloist. Mr. Barbini is actively involved in the Chamber Music Society of Sacramento as a founding member and the current Music Director. As Concertmaster of the Sacramento Symphony, Monterey Symphony, and the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra, Mr. Barbini appeared numerous times performing nearly all of the major concertos. His European performances include a tour of Austria and Germany with Tonkünstler Orchestra, performing Beethoven Concerto. An active chamber musician and teacher, he is on the faculty of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
I-Hui Chen frequently performs with the Chamber Music Society of Sacramento. She earned an undergraduate degree from Taipei National University of the Arts where she studied piano performance under Alexander Sung whose musical lineage can be traced to Emil von Sauer, one of Liszt’s students, and Carl Czerny. Ms. Chen received a scholarship to pursue her master of music degree at the New England Conservatory of Music where she studied with the legendary piano maestra Patricia Zander. In addition to being a solo performer, she is a dedicated teacher to young musicians and an experienced collaborative pianist.
Cellist Julie Hochman has been teaching and performing in many venues since obtaining a Masters of Music degree at Indiana University in 1983. For her six years as a member of the Hawthorne Trio, then Quartet, she performed in the mid-western United States, in Canada and in Spain. Ms. Hochman has been especially devoted to teaching young cellists and has held instructorships at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music, Lawrence University, the String Academy of Wisconsin, and the Community School of Music and Arts in Mountain View, California. Currently she performs with the California Baroque Ensemble and various area groups, and maintains a busy cello studio of twenty students.
Mathew Krejci is the President of the Chamber Music Society of Sacramento. He is also the Principal Flutist of the Sacramento Philharmonic Orchestra and teaches flute at the University of the Pacific. He has performed with Gian Carlo Menotti's Festival of Two Worlds in Charleston, South Carolina and Spoleto, Italy. Mr. Krejci has been Principal Flutist of the Bear Valley Music Festival; has played at San Francisco's Curran Theatre, performing in Phantom of the Opera; and was a member of the Sacramento Symphony for 18 years. In 1999, he was invited to perform a recital of contemporary flute music by Czech and American composers in Prague, Czech Republic.
Victor Liva is the Director of Orchestras at Cleveland State University, where he conducts the Symphony and Chamber Orchestras, coordinates the string program and serves as the Director of Graduate Programs in Music, and the music director of the Cleveland Philharmonic Orchestra. In November 2013, Dr. Liva conducted the Mihail Jora Philharmonic of Bacau Romania. Before moving to Cleveland, he was the Director of Orchestras at Northern Arizona University, where he was also the resident conductor of the Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra. Prior to moving to Arizona, from 2000 to 2002, he was the Orchestra Conductor and Professor of Violin at Wilkes University, Pennsylvania.
Kineko Okumura was born in Tokyo and won a Fulbright Scholarship to study in the US. She attended Manhattan School of Music, where she appeared as soloist with Perlea conducting, and also received a Diploma in Violin Performance from The Juilliard School. Ms. Okumura is the winner of numerous prestigious competitions, including the Paganini International Competition. She has appeared in recitals in Boston, New York, Tokyo, Siena Italy, and Sacramento. She has held Associate Concertmaster and Concertmaster positions with many Bay Area orchestras. Ms. Okumura is a dedicated teacher both privately and at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
