"I’m currently a junior Wellesley student studying astrophysics and looking into engineering. Before I came to college, I wrote off engineering completely, assuming that since I didn’t already know how to do it, I couldn’t learn. Now that I’ve actually tried it, I can see that this, along with so many of my other insecurities and doubts along the way, came from my socialization as a woman to believe that I had to get everything perfect before I could gain the confidence to move on. Seeing the men around me being successful, I assumed they knew something I didn’t. But all they had was a knowledge that they belonged where they wanted to be. Now that I have the same knowledge, I want to pass it on. If you have the ability to try something you’re interested in, don’t stop yourself because you’re afraid you don’t know enough. You can learn along the way. "
