PRIVACY POLICY FOR DUPLICATE TAB SHORTCUT
Last Updated: October 2026
================================================================================
1. INTRODUCTION
Duplicate Tab Shortcut ("the Extension", "we", "us", or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy clearly describes how the extension handles user data, explains the permissions requested by the extension, and demonstrates our strict compliance with Google Chrome Web Store policies.
Our core commitment is simple: We do not collect, store, sell, or transmit any of your personal data, browsing activity, or web page content.
2. DATA COLLECTION AND USAGE
• Personal Data: We do NOT collect names, emails, IP addresses, location data, or device identifiers.
• Browsing Data & History: We do NOT collect, monitor, log, or transmit any URLs, website visits, page titles, browsing history, or search queries.
• Web Page Content & Keystrokes: We do NOT read, capture, or inspect any web page content, forms, passwords, or personal credentials.
• Analytics & Tracking: We do NOT use third-party analytics (such as Google Analytics or Mixpanel), advertising networks, tracking beacons, or telemetry.
• Network Transmission: The extension operates 100% locally on your computer and never connects to external servers.
3. PERMISSIONS EXPLAINED & WHY THEY ARE USED
The extension declares only one single permission in its manifest.json:
• "storage"
Purpose: Used exclusively to store and synchronize user interface preferences across browser sessions via Chrome's native chrome.storage.sync API.
Data Stored:
- "background" (boolean: true/false): Remembers whether you prefer duplicated tabs to open in the background or in the active foreground.
- "duplicateNextToTab" (boolean: true/false): Remembers tab placement preference.
All stored preference data remains inside your personal Google Chrome profile and is never sent to us or any third party.
4. ARE ALL REQUESTED PERMISSIONS STRICTLY NECESSARY? (LEAST PRIVILEGE AUDIT)
A fundamental question users and reviewers ask is: "Are all requested permissions strictly necessary, or can some be omitted?"
We have engineered Duplicate Tab Shortcut with the strict Principle of Least Privilege:
1. Why we DO NOT request the "tabs" permission:
While the extension duplicates and manages tabs, Chrome's Manifest V3 architecture permits tab duplication (chrome.tabs.duplicate), creation (chrome.tabs.create), and relocation (chrome.tabs.move) WITHOUT the broad "tabs" permission. By not requesting "tabs", our extension is technically prohibited from reading the URLs, titles, or favicons of your open tabs, guaranteeing your browsing privacy.
2. Why we DO NOT request host permissions (e.g. "<all_urls>", "http://*", "https://*"):
The extension does not inject content scripts into web pages and does not inspect DOM elements. All actions are handled via native browser background commands.
3. Why "storage" is the only required permission:
Without "storage", any preference toggles configured by the user in the popup (such as opening duplicated tabs in the background) would reset every time the browser or extension background worker restarts.
Therefore, our permission footprint is the absolute minimum possible for the extension to deliver its promised functionality.
5. DATA RETENTION AND DELETION
Because we collect no personal data or usage analytics, we retain zero user records. If you choose to uninstall Duplicate Tab Shortcut, Chrome automatically removes all locally stored preferences from your browser.
6. GOOGLE CHROME WEB STORE POLICY COMPLIANCE
Duplicate Tab Shortcut complies with the Google Chrome Web Store Developer Program Policies, including the Single Purpose Policy and Limited Use Requirements:
• It serves a single, clear purpose: tab duplication and shortcut management.
• It does not transfer user data to third parties.
• It does not use user data for advertising, creditworthiness, or profiling.
