Dubly is an independent Chrome extension for live AI dubbing of audio from a browser tab you choose and for optional Voice Typing / Speech-to-Text on supported websites.
Dubly uses your own Google API key. Live dubbing uses Google Gemini services, and Voice Typing uses a Google speech-to-text / transcription service selected by Dubly for that feature.
An experimental option can also show translated text over an accessible video while dubbing runs.
When you press Start for live dubbing, Dubly captures audio from the selected tab and sends it directly to Google over an encrypted connection for real-time processing using your own API key.
Dubly does not send video frames or browsing history for translation, and it does not operate a translation relay server or analytics upload service.
Closing the small extension popup does not necessarily end an active dubbing session. Use the Stop control or close the source tab to end tab-audio transmission.
Translated text and the source tab title may appear inside the extension during an active session. Translated text is kept only in session memory.
Dubly does not save tab audio recordings, video files, caption text, page titles, domains, or full page URLs in its activity history.
If experimental floating captions are enabled, translated text is sent to an isolated script on the selected tab for display. Your API key is not sent to the webpage.
Dubly includes an optional Voice Typing feature that converts speech from your microphone into text.
Microphone access is requested only when you use Voice Typing and explicitly start recording.
When Voice Typing is active, microphone audio required for transcription is sent directly from the extension to the applicable Google speech-to-text / transcription service using your own API key.
Dubly does not operate a server in the Voice Typing transcription path.
Microphone audio, resulting transcripts, and your API key do not pass through Dubly servers and are not stored on Dubly servers.
Dubly may temporarily hold transcription results in extension memory so they can be displayed, copied, or inserted into a text field selected by the user.
Voice Typing can optionally display a floating microphone control on supported websites.
When you enable this feature, Dubly may request optional access to websites so it can:
Display the floating Voice Typing control
Detect supported text input areas such as input fields, text areas, or editable elements
Insert transcribed text into the field selected by the user
This optional website access is requested only when you choose to enable the feature.
Dubly does not use optional website access to monitor unrelated browsing activity, build browsing profiles, or collect browsing history.
Some websites, browser internal pages, protected pages, or complex web editors may not support Voice Typing or floating controls.
activeTab: Grants temporary access to the tab on which you invoke Dubly. It is not permanent access to all websites.
tabCapture: Captures the selected tab's audio while a dubbing session is active.
offscreen: Runs a Chrome offscreen document to process and play audio while the extension popup is closed.
storage: Saves the API key, preferences, Voice Typing settings, and optional local activity history on your device.
scripting: Adds experimental floating captions and, when applicable, Voice Typing interface elements to supported pages.
Optional website access: May be requested when you enable floating Voice Typing so Dubly can display its control and insert transcribed text into supported fields.

Dubly may connect to the corresponding secure Google endpoints required for live AI dubbing and related Google API functionality.
Chrome internal pages, the Chrome Web Store, protected pages, and some protected media players cannot be accessed or captured.
Your Google API key and preferences, including dubbing language, volume settings, Voice Typing preferences, and interface settings, are stored in Chrome's local extension storage so they remain available after a browser or computer restart.
They are not synced through your Chrome account by Dubly.
Chrome local extension storage is not a dedicated encrypted credential vault. You should protect your computer and API key.
You can replace or delete the API key from Dubly Settings.
My Activity is enabled by default.
It may store information such as:
Tab-audio streaming duration
Local calendar dates
Target language
Random session identifiers
This information is stored locally on your device for up to 366 days.
Streaming time includes silence and is not a measure of translated speech or Google API charges.
You can disable activity recording or erase its history from the extension.
Dubly does not store page titles, domains, full page URLs, microphone recordings, or Voice Typing transcripts in My Activity.
Removing the extension removes extension-managed local data according to Chrome's storage behavior.
Google processes audio and API requests used for Dubly's AI features under Google's applicable terms and privacy policies.
Live dubbing may use Google Gemini services, while Voice Typing may use a Google service specifically designed for speech-to-text or transcription.
Depending on the Google service, API, account type, region, and billing tier you use, Google may apply different data-use, retention, availability, and pricing rules.
You should review the applicable Google API terms and Google Privacy Policy before sending sensitive content through Dubly.
Dubly does not sell user data.
Dubly does not use local activity information for advertising, credit scoring, lending, or unrelated tracking.
The use of information received from Google APIs is intended to comply with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including applicable Limited Use requirements.
Crypto donations are optional.
Blockchain transactions may be publicly visible, and wallet providers or blockchain services may have their own privacy policies.
Dubly does not require a donation to unlock its core features unless clearly stated otherwise in a future version.
We may update this Privacy Policy when Dubly's features or data-handling practices change.
