What is Upward Bound Math & Science?

Funded by the U.S Department of Education, the Delaware Technical Community College Upward Bound Math Science (UBMS) initiative is a comprehensive program developed to enhance the academic skills, leadership and college readiness of high school students who have the potential or an interest in attending college.

UBMS provides students with academic support, career exploration, and technological skill development. In addition, UBMS also provides extensive assistance to students in their college preparation, identification and application process.

UBMS offers academic enrichment at Delaware Technical Community College and Saturday programming during the academic year.

Students selected to participate remain in the program until their high school graduation.

What does our Program Provide?

  • Academic Summer Enrichment Academy (6 weeks)

  • Participation in the New Castle County Science Fair

  • Scholarship and internship information and application assistance

  • Academic support of high school courses

  • Supplemental courses in English, Math, Science and a foreign language

  • Career conferences and science research preparation

  • Assistance with course selection and College selection and application

  • Cultural learning experiences

  • SAT preparation

  • Community service opportunities

As a federally funded program, there are NO COST to the students!

We are located at the Delaware Technical Community College- George Campus at 300 N. Orange St. in downtown Wilmington.

Program Information

  • Upward Bound Math & Science serves 80+ students residing in the Christina, Red Clay and Colonial districts.

  • Upward Bound Math & Science focus schools are William Penn, Glasgow, Christiana, McKean, and Newark High Schools. Some of our students may utilize the choice option to attend other high schools but reside in the Christina, Red Clay and Colonial School Districts.

  • Student participants in New Castle County Science Fair and the six-week summer academy are awarded stipends based on a set of criteria including attendance and participation. Stipends in 2017 and 2018 were ~$120/student. The stipend amount is subject to change.
