Dr. Sivaganesh Selvaraj joined the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (HK PolyU), Hong Kong as a Research Assistant Professor specializing in Structural Engineering in July 2023. Prior to this, Dr. Selvaraj served as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at HK PolyU from 2020-2023, working under the supervision of Professor. Tak-Ming Chan and Professor. Ben Young.
Dr. Selvaraj's research focuses on Cold-formed Steel Structures, Experimental Testing and Design of Steel and Composite Structures, Thin-walled Steel Structures, Retrofitting of Steel Structures and Circular Economy in Construction. His scholarly work has been published in leading SCI-indexed Q1 journals. In recognition of his research excellence, he was awarded the 2023 "YDK Young Researcher Award" by the Structural Stability Research Council (SSRC), affiliated with the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC), USA. Additionally, Dr. Selvaraj received the "OUTSTANDING REVIEWER AWARD" from the ASCE’s Journal of Structural Engineering twice, in 2021 and 2024, as selected by the journal's Editorial Board.
Dr. Sivaganesh Selvaraj obtained his Ph.D. and M. Tech degrees in Structural Engineering (Steel Structures) from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Hyderabad, India in 2019, under the mentorship of Professor. Mahendrakumar Madhavan. During his doctoral studies, he was a recipient of the prestigious “Prime Minister’s Doctoral Research Fellowship” (PM Fellowship) for industry-oriented research (2014-15). He holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Civil Engineering from the Anna University, India, graduating with First Class with Distinction in 2013. Dr. Selvaraj also earned a Diploma in Civil Engineering and was awarded the “Institute Gold Medal” for securing the first-rank position in the Department throughout the diploma program.
