Where will I meet with Dr. Saldivar?
Dr. Saldivar has office space in both Brownsville and Edinburg.
If your section of UNIV 1301 meets in Brownsville, you will meet Dr. Saldivar for academic advising on the Brownsville campus in Cortez Hall 140 -- see this map (Cortez Hall is #12)
If your section of UNIV 1301 meets in Edinburg, you will meet Dr. Saldivar for academic advising on the Edinburg campus in STAC 2.120 -- see this map (STAC is #14)
PLEASE BE SURE TO ARRIVE 10 MINUTES EARLY. Dr. Saldivar usually meets with several students back-to-back; if he finishes a prior meeting early, he can meet with YOU early and you can finish up faster!
What do I need to take with me to the meeting?
Besides a pen or pencil and paper (in case you need to take notes), complete this advising worksheet by the time you meet with Dr. Saldivar so you can have an expeditious meeting.
DR. SALDIVAR WILL NOT MEET WITH YOU REGARDING YOUR REGISTRATION FOR NEXT SEMESTER IF YOU DO NOT HAVE YOUR SCHEDULE DRAFTED (either on the worksheet or elsewhere).
Wait - If I don't have my schedule drafted, Dr. Saldivar won't meet with me?
That is correct.
Why is that?
The purpose of the meeting is to review your draft schedule. If your schedule meets your major's academic requirements, Dr. Saldivar will then remove the advising bar that UTRGV placed on your student record and you will be able to register.
What if I need help drafting my schedule? [Insert the name of another academic advisor here] has helped me draft my schedule in the past.
Dr. Saldivar is happy to give you more guidance if you need it BUT that would be a separate discussion (or separate meeting) from the meeting you need SPECIFICALLY to review your draft schedule and remove the bar on your record.
So, if I need help drafting my schedule, Dr. Saldivar will help me, but I need to talk to him in person or by email about all that in advance?
To make sure I understand - when I walk into "the" meeting to have my bar removed, I need to take pen, paper, and my draft schedule for next semester, and then Dr. Saldivar can remove the bar?
What if I have questions AFTER this meeting?
You are welcome to contact Dr. Saldivar with further questions, and meet again if necessary. You're not limited to one meeting but you MUST meet in person at least once so that Dr. Saldivar can review your schedule and remove the bar keeping you from registering for next semester UNTIL you have met with him.
Okay, I'm ready to start drafting my class schedule for next semester!
