Online-only files take up a small amount of space on your hard drive as the placeholder requires space to store the file name and the shortcut to dropbox.com. Still, this takes up much less space than the file itself would.

Hello Nancy; Still very frustrated. I am referring to my Dropbox installation on my laptop, Windows 10. Still same problem. I can open the c:\(user)\Dropbox folder (but it takes a long time) and can see the folders with it. But I cannot open any of them by clicking on the folder (I am referring to Windows Explorer, not opening dropbox with my browser).

That's it. When installing Dropbox on my laptop it's only installed for my current user account, the other users can't see the shortcuts or use them (since logged in as another user the shortcuts always point to the dropbox of the user that installed it). How do you install it so all other accounts can use their own dropbox?

4. From corporate, we manage all of the dropbox accounts. When a new person needs access, a dropbox account is created for them and any of the top level folders they require access to is shared to them. (We are using dropbox free accounts -- I know it could be a little easier with DB for Business).

Basically, management of this is quite complicated. From what I can see, this is basically a document library, correct? Could I mirror this in a sharepoint site, and configure ACL so that various groups of our mobile workforce have access (read only) to whatever top level folder they need? Also, similarly for the HQ office personnel that maintain the reports / PDFs in the folders wiht maybe ODFB?

I'm brand new to Scrivener. I haven't actually bought it yet, just downloaded it as a trial for my Win10 desktop. I plan to use it mostly on my desktop, however it would be nice to occasionally use it on my iPad. In looking at Scrivener's website guide files, it sounds like Dropbox is their in-line way to go for syncing. I'd really like to avoid using Dropbox bc I already pay for several services that include cloud drives (office365 for example) and I think it's absurd to pay $10/month for dropbox for a single file that will barely be a few GBs. If I use OneDrive, how to I open/navigate to the folder on the iPad's Scrivener since it won't be an automated process?

Houston founded Evenflow, Inc. in May 2007[21] as the company behind Dropbox, and shortly thereafter secured seed funding from Y Combinator.[22] Dropbox was officially launched at 2008's TechCrunch Disrupt, an annual technology conference.[23] Owing to trademark disputes between Proxy, Inc. and Evenflow, Dropbox's official domain name was "getdropbox.com" until October 2009, when it acquired its current domain, "dropbox.com".[23] In October 2009, Evenflow, Inc. was renamed Dropbox, Inc.[24]

Hi, does anyone know if dropbox has any legal restrictions when it comes to use of the free version in a business? We are at the moment just going to use it to exchange some files with a supplier and see this as a perfect solution (If free is ok).

Ā Over the past 6 months I have dropped my phone in water, got my laptop stolen, had a hard drive failure, and dropped another hard drive on the floor. I could either buy a new pair of hands and hope for the best, or move all my stuff to dropbox, and secure it with cryptomator.

If I sync folders (desktop) on drobbox, switch of sync, delete files on the desktop on my computer; and then switch sync on again, will the deleted files be deleted on dropbox too, or do they stay with a timestamp?

Google One offers six different membership plans, the basic plan being 100GB for $2 per month. The Google One app makes it easy to manage your account, swap between plans, free up account storage, and take advantage of special member benefits.

Bottom LineĀ

Apple iCloud is an easy cloud storage service for Apple users to check out because it's already native to the device. Upgrading from the basic tier is easy and Apple thankfully doesn't tuck away useful features behind the highest-priced plan.

In order to use Dropbox, you must have a user account. The registration process, fortunately, only takes thirty seconds, as you just need to enter your e-mail address to create the account. This type of basic subscription allows you to store up to 2GB in the cloud, which you can manage from up to 3 different devices, including Android devices and PCs. If you need more storage or more devices, you can purchase some of the premium subscription plans, which will allow you to have up to 3TB of storage for a fixed amount per month.

I have successful connected my desktop model to an anonnymous dropbox link and it refreshes absolutely fine on PBI servce. OneDrive is an absolute disaster as a cloud storage system, it works for Power bI but is garbagge for anything else.

I opened a support ticket 5 months ago, still no solution. Every month they send my issue to another engineer, but no one helped so far. and sincerely, and I think they never will, as dropbox is rival to onedrive... sad.

Hey @Anonymous, any luck with getting things working with v2 this morning? Our entire Power BI system is not working at the moment due to this issue as I have everything setup through the " -content.dropbox.com/1/files/auto" string as mentioned previously. I never received an email or any other notification from Dropbox about retiring v1 so I am not happy with them at the moment.

I've tried a bunch of them - I paid for Dropbox Pro for 3 years, but recently removed my subscription, in early 10 years of using it - I've "earned" 11 GB of storage anyway - but Dropbox was never "cross platform" enough for me from the start (e.g. no binaries for ARM based Linux devices e.g. RPi) - basically I've replaced Dropbox with "Resilio Sync", and I've paid for a 5 user pro license (for "life")... Also tried OwnCloud and NextCloud (I found NextCloud slightly better) - but Resilio Sync is doing everything I need (plus I'm using a plugin on my FreeNAS for resilio) - and Resilio Sync apps on my iPad and Android phone (both free - unlike the Owncloud app for iOS)! I'll still keep using my free Dropbox as an adjunct - but Resilio does everything I need, my music collection on all my devices (with selective sync on those devices with insufficient storage). None of my sync'd data is stored on the cloud - Resilio Sync is based on the older "btsync_ (and I think related to syncthing). Anyway - I've got it running on both my RPi3, an OrangePi, a BananPi, my NAS, my 3 Linux desktops/laptops, and my work Windows 10 laptop, iPad Pro and Galaxy Note...

Sync.com is a Canadian-based collaborative cloud storage business that seeks to make storing data in the cloud more affordable. The free plan includes its basic collaboration features and 5GB of safe storage.

The best alternative to dropbox is Google Drive. This service offers 5GB of free storage space for every new user account and a monthly subscription option that starts at $1.99 per month for 100GB of storage space and goes up to $9.99 per month for 1TB of storage space.

Speaking of using Dropbox for backup, you may think of the most commonly used 2 ways. The first one is to download the Dropbox and install it on your computer, then just drag and drop the files you want to backup into the Dropbox folder. The second one is to upload files or folders on the dropbox.com.
