The Verizon Droid Razr (GSM/UMTS version: Motorola Razr; both versions styled RAZR)[4] is an Android-based, 4G LTE-capable smartphone designed by Motorola that launched on Verizon Wireless on November 11, 2011. It was announced on October 18, 2011 in New York City.

At launch, the Razr was the thinnest smartphone in the world at only 7.1 mm thick on most of the device (it does, however, have a "bump" on top that is approximately 11.1 mm thick.) and includes a 4.3-inch (110 mm) super active-matrix organic light emitting diode (AMOLED) advanced PenTile[2] display, covered in a Gorilla glass screen and a Kevlar back plate. It is powered by an OMAP 4430 SoC with dual 1.2 GHz ARM Cortex-A9 processor cores. Its 8-megapixel rear-facing camera can record 1080p HD videos. It comes with 1 GB of RAM and runs Android version 4.1.2.[5] The Razr Maxx is a variant with a higher capacity battery at 3300 mAh [6] an 85% increase in capacity over the 1780 mAh battery in the original RAZR. Due to the battery's larger physical size, the Razr Maxx's overall thickness is larger, at 8.99 mm.[6]

The phone comes installed with Android version 2.3.6 Gingerbread. It uses a modified user interface called Motoblur that focuses on social networking. The main features of Motoblur in the Droid Razr are:

The Razr V is considered a generational upgrade of the original Droid Razr. The Razr V has improvements over the original such as Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and an easier to grasp form-factor, but there are also some cost-cutting measures in order to reduce the price, since the original Droid Razr was positioned as a flagship smartphone. In Canada, the Razr V launched on Bell Mobility and Virgin Mobile and Wind Mobile.[1][2][3][4] However, the Razr V is still priced above that of a feature phone and it is not much cheaper than flagship (high-end) smartphones with better specs, such as Motorola's own Razr M and Razr HD.[5]

The Motorola Droid Razr is going to be one of the last really powerful smartphones arriving on market without Android 4 Ice Cream Sandwich, and that's its major downside compared to the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, the other recent high-profile release on Verizon. But while the Droid Razr has some weak points, its performance is great, even a little better than the Nexus.

The Super AMOLED screen on the Droid Razr looks better than most large-screened Android smartphones because of its qHD resolution. The operating system and native apps look fine and the colors are great, but when you go into the browser, small text is a little rougher. When the brightness was set below 90 percent or so, the screen displayed a distinct yellowish tint. Above that, whites look white, but your battery's going to suffer for their purity.

On my regular phone, I have to keep the Settings button on the front page because I'm doing this by hand so often to save on battery life, but on the Droid Razr it can be automated. (Android phones have homescreen widgets that can deal with this more handily than an iPhone, but Smart Actions is even more convenient). Every manufacturer should license this app (or "appropriate" it if their lawyers are getting bored), because every phone should have this.

Look at the bottom of the screen, on the right. Firefox. So not only did I have all my droid abilities, I also had full internet capabilities. Which was great because there are still some sites out there that just don't work on a mobile device.

If you travel or find yourself trying to work remotely, this is a combo worth checking out. The lapdock will cost less than a comparable netbook and provide all the features you should need due to the large Android app library. The lapdock has its own internal battery which lasted more than 4 hours when I used it. If the phone and lapbock are both fully charged you should get at least 8 hours of run time. When the phone is connected to the lapdock, it will use the lapdock battery before its own, which means your phone should remain charged for solo use.

In 2009, Motorola came back swinging when it embraced the Android OS and launched the Motorola Droid. The Droid became the ultimate anti-iPhone with its "Droid Does" advertising campaign, and catapulted Android to the masses. Motorola was finally back, and in a big way. Motorola made other Android-based handsets like the Flipout and the Atrix 4G, but "Droid" is still arguably the company's most recognizable brand.

Enter the Droid Razr. In one of the best marketing moves we've seen all year, Motorola has combined two of its most powerful brands into one phone. The Droid Razr is just as its name suggests: a powerful Droid smartphone packaged in the superskinny Razr design. It boasts all of the latest smartphone technologies like a dual-core processor, Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread, and support for Verizon's 4G LTE network bundled inside an impossibly thin chassis that's also remarkably durable. The price will likely knock you off your feet, but then, so will the phone.

User interface

The Motorola Droid Razr ships with Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread and a refined and lightweight version of MotoBlur that we've already seen in other Motorola handsets like the Atrix 2 and the Droid Bionic. It has up to five customizable home screens, and at the bottom row of the home screen are shortcuts to the phone dialer, the messaging inbox, the camera app, and the main menu. When you tap the Home button in standby mode, you will see a zoomed-out view of all the home screens, similar to HTC's Sense UI.

You navigate the main menu by swiping side to side, and the apps can be organized into groups. There is a very slight flicker animation that occurs when you swipe screens. The default lock screen has the usual swipe-to-unlock control, a vibrate/sound toggle, plus a camera app shortcut in case you need to get to the camera quickly from the lock screen. As for the virtual keyboard, you have the choice of either the default multitouch Android keyboard or Swype.

Like a lot of other high-end Motorola Android phones, the Droid Razr ships with the Webtop app that lets you get portable PC functionality. Simply connect it with a compatible accessory like the Lapdock 100 (10-inch screen), the Lapdock 500 Pro (14-inch screen), or an HD Station, and the Webtop platform will launch automatically. The Lapdocks come equipped with a keyboard and touch pad, but you'll have to contribute your own input devices if using something like the HD Station.

With such a luscious display, it's no wonder that Motorola saw fit to bundle the Droid Razr with Netflix. Indeed, Motorola claims that the Droid Razr is the first phone to be able to play Netflix video in HD quality. We queued up a recent episode of "Top Gear U.K." (which we think is one of the best-looking shows on TV), and were stunned at the crystal-clear quality of the video. Colors were rich and deep, and blacks were true. Even on 4G LTE, the video was stunningly sharp, and it was a treat to watch it on such a wide display. And since the Droid Razr has a Micro-HDMI port, you can hook up the phone to a large-screen HDTV for an even more immersive experience. You can do so via DLNA as well. You can download videos from the Android Market or load your own as long as they're in the H.263, H.264, MPEG4, or WMV v9 format.

I have tested my application on various mobile phones. My applications main functionality is taking pictures and recording video through the phones camera. I didn't face an issue on most of the mobile phones, but I did face this issue on Motorola DROID RAZR. My application works fine when i take a picture. But I'm facing an issue when I record a video. When I record a video, I get a blank screen. There is no preview showing on the mobile screen. I don't why its happening, but on most of the mobile phones its working fine. And taking picture working fine on this phone (the droid razr).

Motorola's latest DROID Android smartphone is sure to grab lots of attention. The DROID RAZR MAXX is remarkably thin, powerful and it provides more than double the average battery life of comparable 4G devices. CIO.com's Al Sacco details 10 of the most noteworthy RAZR MAXX features and offers a video look at this top of the line gadget.

The device is just 8.99 millimeters, making it one of the thinnest Android devices and high-end smartphones to date. (The iPhone 4S is 9.3mm , according to Apple, while the BlackBerry Bold 9900 is about 10.4mm, RIM says.)

Outside of the sharpness, it has that old Razr-esque chin on the bottom that offers itself only as a nuisance while the phone is unfolded and you try and use it. You see, a good portion of Android as an operating system is based upon interactions with the bottom of the phone. There are gestures, navigation buttons, keyboards, tabs within apps, all taking place in that lower area. The Razr chin hump is constantly in the way of that area. The keyboard is shifted into an awkward position because of the hump, reaching over that chin makes tapping navigation buttons an unproductive task, and any other UI element housed down there is affected by its sheer size.

The bottom line is this: Being Android users (and especially after using a number of 4G LTE devices), we're a lot more comfortable being able to replace a dead battery than we are hoping for a chance to charge while on the go. 2351a5e196
