Dr. Mrinal Kaushik has been Professor of Aerospace Engineering at IIT Kharagpur since January 2026. From October 2020 to January 2026, he worked as an Associate Professor, and from May 2013 to October 2020, as an Assistant Professor, in the same department. Prior to that, he held the position of Assistant Professor at the Defence Institute of Advanced Technology in Pune. His professional experience also includes working as a CAE Engineer at General Motors Technical Center in Bangalore, a Project Manager at HyTech Professionals in Noida, a Research Scientist at the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) at VSSC in Trivandrum, and a Senior Software Engineer at Tata Consultancy Services in Mumbai.
Dr. Kaushik earned his Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering from IIT Kanpur in 2012, following his M.Tech in 2003 and B.Tech in 1999, also from IIT Kanpur.
His research interests focus on Shock-Wave/Boundary-Layer Interactions, and Supersonic Jet Control and Acoustics. He has published 46 articles in international journals, 38 articles in refereed conference proceedings, 18 patents (filed/granted) and 1 edited volume.
In addition to his research work, Dr. Kaushik has authored 5 textbooks for engineering students: Fluid Mechanics: Theory, Problems, and Applications (CRC Press, Taylor & Francis, USA, In Writing), Instrumentation and Measurements in Compressible Flows (CRC Press, Taylor & Francis, USA, 2023), Fundamentals of Gas Dynamics (Springer Nature, Singapore, 2022), Theoretical and Experimental Aerodynamics (Springer Nature, Singapore, 2019), and Essentials of Aircraft Armaments (Springer Nature, Singapore, 2016). He has also written a monograph titled Innovative Passive Control Techniques for Supersonic Jet Mixing (Lambert Academic Publishing, Saarbrücken, Germany, 2012).
