I'm Dr. Jas, former Chicago principal, district leader, leadership coach, published author, and systems architect. I build the structures that grow leaders, so that you, your district, your school, or your nonprofit runs on a team, not a hero or a hope.
School districts
You want a real pipeline of leaders, not a revolving door. I help you grow them from within.
Principals & leadership teams
What got you the job won't keep you in it. Let's build what will, together.
Aspiring Leaders
You're more than classroom coverage, discipline, or operations. You're a leader in the making.
Nonprofit leaders
Mission-driven teams need the same thing schools do: leaders who develop leaders.
District, school, or nonprofit, the work is the same. When you develop your people, they will carry the mission.
Everything I do is built on the belief that PEOPLE are the GREATEST resource a leader will ever have.
For superintendents and district teams building a real leadership pipeline. I identify the competencies your leaders need, assess where they are, and design the cohorts, coaching, and just-in-time supports that grow principal-ready leaders from within. This includes the systems around your principals executive leadership skills, like stakeholder and relationship management.
For aspiring or new-to-role leaders, school principals, and district leaders who want a thinking partner who has sat in the hard seat. We set clear goals, keep the main thing the main thing, and build the habits that keep you in the work.
For executive directors and leadership teams. I help you build a leadership team that shares the load, set clear priorities, and facilitate the strategy sessions and retreats that move the mission forward.
Practical workshops on distributed leadership, developing leaders, and running meetings that move the work. Keynotes for conferences, district convenings, and retreats, including "You Can't Do It Alone" and "Constraints Can Become Catalysts."
A yearlong leadership development cohort that grows assistant principals into principal-ready leaders. Each year is designed around the APs' own needs across Culture, Systems, and Learning, grounded in the School Leader Paradigm: Becoming While Doing.

Over my seven years as principal, my team and I also improved staff retention, student attendance, and family engagement. Our school counseling program earned RAMP designation (Recognized ASCA Model Program), and the fourth-largest school district in the US recognized our distributed leadership model for its impact and sustainability.
What got you the job won't keep you in it. The skills that made you stand out for your current role are the foundational skills for your next level of success. Let's level UP!
Constraints can be catalysts. My best leadership structure came out of a $180,000 budget cut. Let's work through yours.
People stay where they're invested. That's true for teachers, APs, and executive directors alike.
If the work stops when you're out sick, you don't have a system yet. Let's build one together.
I'm Dr. Jas L. Thurmond, Founder and CEO of AnchorED Leadership, LLC. I've spent my career in Chicago schools: first as a teacher in high schools, then as a principal, and now as a district leader. Every seat taught me the same lesson. The leaders who last are the ones who build other leaders.
Through AnchorED Leadership, I bring that same lens to districts, schools, and nonprofits. Whatever the organization, whomever the person, my goal is the same: remove the obstacles and watch them SHINE!
I earned my Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from National Louis University, where my research studied the critical supports for novice principals to lead well alongside their Local School Councils. I'm also a contributing author to two books: The ABCs of Social Emotional Learning for School Counselors and Administrators (Corwin), edited by Kirsten H. Perry and Melissa S. Ockerman and Tales of Urban School Leadership: Real Stories from Real Leaders, edited by Dr. Cynthia Treadwell. I also co-host a podcast, Real Talk about SEL, with Kirsten Perry and Dr. LaVerne Coke, where we focus on practical social-emotional learning (SEL) in schools.
